Louisville’s Dexter Heyman was the recipient of the Howard Schnellenberger Award which is presented to the outstanding player in the annual Louisville – Kentucky football game. Heyman was given the award last night at the Paul Hornung Award ceremonies at the Galt House. He had four tackles and four tackle assists and forced a fumble in U of L’s 24-17 win on September 14th.
Heyman was introduced by Louisville defensive coordinator Vance Bedford, who had very high praises for this year’s senior captain. Bedford described Heyman as a great citizen who will be successful in whatever path he chooses after graduating from Louisville. Bedford wasn’t the only person at the ceremony who had high praise for Heyman. “Young man, if you don’t carry on in professional football, gets your ass into politics,” said Mike Ditka, the legendary former Chicago Bears coach. “We need people like you in public office.”
