Happy Presidents' Day kids! Highlight Monday is celebrating by honoring the greatest athlete to ever occupy the White House, President Gerald Ford. Ford's Michigan football career is mentioned prominently in almost any biography of the 38th President, but I always assumed his athletic abilities were exaggerated as part of a political narrative. Then I read more about his days in Ann Arbor. Gerald Ford was a BEAST. He anchored the Wolverines offensive line as a center, and defense as a linebacker, from 1932 to 1934, leading undefeated teams to national titles in his first two seasons. Ford received NFL offers from the Lions and Packers after graduating from Michigan, but elected (see what I did there?) to attend law school and pursue a career in politics. Here's the school's official highlight package from Ford's selection as a Michigan Legend: Also, **** Georgia Tech. (Photo: The University of Michigan)
