Frank Beamer and the Virginia Tech Hokies are playing for the ACC championship in football this weekend, which isnt exactly a news flash anymore. The Hokies have basically made the host stadium for this event their own annual personal playhouse since joining the ACC. If they defeat Clemson at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Saturday night, it will mark the programs fifth ACC title in eight seasons. To put that in perspective, thats the same number of ACC titles won by North Carolina, Clemson, Duke, Wake Forest, Virginia, Maryland and Georgia Tech combined since 1990, and that doesnt count recent conference additions Boston College or Miami, neither of which has been crowed, yet. Virginia Tech has become ACC football. This is hard, and to get to the championship game in the ACC, I dont take it for granted myself, said Hokies coach Frank Beamer, the architect of Virginia Techs ascent into the national consciousness. Clearly, and joyfully, I was mistaken. This version of this year'...

Blake DeChristopher’s beard

The Virginia Tech media corps has written countless articles and blog posts about the beard of Blake DeChristopher. But I never have, and one reader demanded, based on my beat history, that I pay homage to perhaps the best patch of facial hair in the Washington Post’s coverage area. So here is DeChristopher, with Frank Beamer, at some event honoring the Hokies’ seniors, via BeamerBall...
