Virginia Tech was blown out twice by Clemson this season and didn't win the ACC championship, yet the Hokies are still going to a BCS bowl. That news began circulating about 90 minutes before the official unveiling Sunday night of the BCS lineup for this bowl season. With SEC teams Alabama and LSU meeting for the national championship, and the BCS rule stating a league can send no more than two clubs to BCS bowls, the door was opened for Frank Beamer's team. It also opened for the ACC to land a second team into a BCS bowl in the same season for the first time in the 14-year history of the postseason system. But does the league deserve it? Clemson will play in the Orange Bowl as the ACC champion. The Hokies are 11-2 and ranked No. 11 in the BCS standings. Boise State (No. 7 BCS) has just one loss and owns a lopsided victory over Georgia in Atlanta on its resume, but the Broncos were snubbed. Kansas State is of the Big 12 is 10-2, TCU is 10-2, beat Boise on the road and wo...

BCS Sugar Bowl Offer Worst At-Large Matchup in Series History

Regardless of whether you not you support a rematch between #1 LSU and #2 Alabama, the BCS achieved its primary goal.  The best two teams in the nation are about to square off for the National Championship.  There is room for debate over Alabama’s inclusion in the title game; did Oklahoma State do enough to warrant a chance at the Tigers?  Perhaps so, but from a pure football...

Virginia Tech surprise choice for Sugar Bowl

The Sugar Bowl passed on the chance to take a pair of higher-rated teams, matching No. 13 Michigan against 17th-ranked Virginia Tech in the Jan. 3 game in New Orleans. The bowl has a traditional tie-in with the Southeastern Conference, but No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama will meet six days later in the national championship game, also at the Superdome in New Orleans. No. 8 Boise...

Stop crying over Kansas State, the non-snubbed

More than a decade into the BCS era and I am still amazed at the outrage over who is selected to play in the BCS bowls outside of the Championship Game. There is a lot of money on the line for sure, but the fact remains that the other bowls are most often a side show to the big one. Unless there is a year without a clear No. 1, the other games don't matter...

The Museday of the Depend Adult Undergarment

Right: One the fruits of this week's "Virginia Tech" googlestalking. First there was the Rose. At this point let's not pretend like this wasn't a marketing ploy because the entire point of the Rose Bowl was to prove to skeptical Easterners that it really is sunny and 70 in January in Pasadena. But at some point the marketing went from "...

Rosenberg, Sharp, Snyder predict U-M/Va Tech in Sugar Bowl

The Hokies have not beaten a team that is currently ranked, and they got waxed by Clemson twice. U-M's BCS résumé has been questioned, and understandably so, but Tech's is weaker.

Virginia Tech vs. Clemson

Clemson makes it two in a row over VA Tech, Orange Bowl bound

Alright, Clemson. You’re officially off the hook. The No. 21 Tigers were able to stop a two-game slide that tossed them out of the national title picture by defeating favored and fifth-ranked Virginia Tech tonight by a final score of 38-10 – their second win over the Hokies this season — to win their first ACC…
