Sure, there is room for Hutson Mason to remain at UGA but I suspect he will transfer for a chance at playing time after the the Dawgs win in the BCSNCG.
Georgia just received a commitment for QB FatonBauta from Florida. Bauta says that he is being recruited by UGA as a quarterback. However, he is an excellent runner and has options at other positions should he not be able to break into the line-up as a signal caller. Remember that the Dawgs have Christian LeMayredshirting this year. LeMay will be formidable competion for any aspiring QB. Brice Ramsey, the highly touted QB prospect from Camden County, is committed for 2013.
Here is what The Lady Sportswriter says about Mason.
Mason, the former Lassiter High School stand-out who signed with the Bulldogs in 2010 has already hinted at the possibility of a transfer. And, as it has become more and more evident that he won't be given an opportunity to take many meaningful snaps sitting behind a settled-in Aaron Murray, the writing may be on the wall for him that he may get on the field a lot quicker elsewhere.
The timing of this signing could just be a happy coincidence as Bauta is listed as an ATH (athlete), but by Bauta's own admission, he was offered as a quarterback. And while some may say that Georgia is simply looking to add depth at a position that has seen some matriculation lately, it's important to remember that Georgia stated early on that they had no intention of signing a quarterback in the 2012 class.
Now that doesn't mean Mason is definitely a goner—both D.J. Shockley and Logan Gray went through similar gyrations before deciding to remain in Athens—but the fact that he could easily start at any I-AA school, as well as a fair number of FBS programs in need of a quarterback, has to be at the front of his mind right now.
You can bet he'll entertain a fair list of suitors should he decide to make a move.
That said, Bauta's signing would offer insurance at that position—particularly with LeMay poised to move to No 2. on the depth chart next season. By contrast, should Mason stay, Bauta also has the ability to be a threat as a receiver (TE) or a defender (LB).
