Clowney sat out Saturday’s scrimmage and Monday night’s practice before returning to the field on Tuesday.
Spurrier on Tuesday said he made the statements about playing without his star after a communication issue came up.
“Jadeveon’s doing fine, Bruce is doing fine, Damiere is doing fine,” Spurrier said after Tuesday’s morning practice. “They had a communication problem, they didn’t know they were supposed to be out here watching practice, so I’m the dummy on that. Now they know they’re going to be out here watching practice. We had a communication problem and we’re ready to go.”
Clowney had 13 sacks last season and was named the Southeastern Conference’s defensive player of the year.

I'm not quite sure who's the cooler dude in this picture: The little Gamecocks fan for going for a fist bump in the first place, or Steve Spurrier for not leaving the guy hanging?
Jadeveon Clowney is the king of college football right now, and his star should only shine brighter as the season progresses, he makes plays, and the Gamecocks make noise in the rugged SEC.
Clowney of course would have been the first overall pick had he been allowed to enter the draft this year, but NFL rules stipulate that a player can’t declare until he’s been out of high school...
