This week's game was going to be the ultimate barometer of where the Huskers stood in their second season. Going into the season, it looked like the toughest game on the schedule. Even if the Sooners aren't the same team they were a year ago, they still recruit well, are coached well, and have no reason to fear Nebraska. This was the real test of what Nebraska could do against real competition.
A year ago the Huskers failed miserably. They lossed an embarrassing outing and used it as motivation to finish the 2008 season strong. But tonight they stood up to the neighborhood bully and managed to gut out a victory. The defense got turnovers. Roy Helu ran hard.
No the offensive problems weren't solved, and you sweat out the remaining games even if Nebraska becomes the favorite. But at least this NU team showed they can compete with the defending conference champion.
