No Guts, No Glory:
If you had forgotten that college football is not so much about college and the kids and much more about football and money, this will serve as a reminder.
USC linebacker Simione Vehikite was released from jail last week after serving a little more than three months for leaving the scene of a car accident. At the time, Vehikite was driving with a .08 percent blood-alcohol level. Vehikite plead no contest to two felony counts and was sentenced to a year in jail.
Upon his release, Vehikite was welcomed back into the USC program by Lane Kiffin and put back on scholarship. Which we have no problem with since we’re all for giving kids a second chance. But his second chance came at the expense of walk-on player Will Andrew who didn’t have his scholarship renewed because of Vehikite being reinstated to the team.
“They’re never granted longer (than a year),” Kiffin said. “He was fortunate to have one for a year.”
Andrew tried to be diplomatic about his predicament.
“Whatever the coac...

As those of us who watch college athletics know all too well, coaching at a high-profile Division-I program is typically more about winning than anything else. Players who contribute to the winning cause are constantly allowed to bend the rules both in the classroom and in everyday life. At USC, for example, a player can be sentenced to jail time and have his scholarship waiting...
It's a good thing USC pursued and landed Silas Redd.
USC Coach Lane Kiffin confirmed Wednesday that sophomore tailback D.J. Morgan would have knee surgery. Morgan had tweeted his status earlier in the day.
Morgan, who started two games in 2011, rushed for seven yards in his only carry Saturday in the Trojans' 49-10 season-opening victory over Hawaii.
Morgan had reconstructive...
The Trojans continue to prepare to travel to the east coast to take on Syracuse at MetLife Stadium on Saturday...
LOS ANGELES -- When USC ended spring practice, depth at tailback was issue No. 1. They had just three scholarship tailbacks.
Fast forward to the Wednesday before No. 2 USC (1-0) is set to take on Syracuse (0-1) in their second game of the season, and the Trojans are once again down to three scholarship tailbacks for the foreseeable future.
Running back D.J. Morgan announced via...
USC quarterback Matt Barkley held off a surge from West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith to once again top the Heismanpundit/CBSSports.com Heisman Straw Poll, a survey of Heisman voter sentiment released every Tuesday. Barkley, the leader in the preseason edition of the straw poll, collected nine out of a possible 11 first-place votes and totaled 28 points after throwing for...
USC Head Coach Lane Kiffin’s response was the typical one, and the safe one considering who his Trojans may face for a National Championship. When asked about the Alabama Crimson Tide leapfrogging USC and capturing the top spot in the AP poll, Kiffin praised the SEC behemoth’s performance against a good Michigan Wolverines squad and summed up his opinion of the poll and standings...
USC defeated Hawaii 49-10 in their season opener on Saturday afternoon, thanks in large part to the efforts of sophomore receiver Marqise Lee. Lee caught a Matt Barkley pass for a touchdown on the first play of the game, then later broke for a 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
All football fans know that no matter how lopsided the score at the end of four quarters, every victorious head football coach is going to point to areas he thinks need improvement during the post –game interview and press conference. In this respect, USC Trojans head coach Lane Kiffin was no different from any other after Saturday’s stomping of an over-matched Hawaii team. In...
USC students and alumni weren't the only ones singing "Fight On" last Saturday. Fox executive Dan Shell was also screaming his lungs out at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as the Trojans trounced Hawaii, 49-10, albeit for slightly different reasons.
Shell is in charge of selling sponsorships for USC's athletic programs. But while Shell's title is vice president...
LOS ANGELES -- Clearly a 35-0 halftime lead and a 39-point win aren't enough to hold onto the No. 1 spot, at least according to the voters of the AP Poll.
With the newest poll released Tuesday now former No. 1 USC (1-0) fell to the No. 2 spot in favor of Alabama (1-0). The Crimson Tide were a 41-14 winner over Michigan on Saturday in the Cowboys Classic.
USC head coach Lane...
"Prep Not Hype" has been the phrase of the fall for USC. On Saturday, they proved it to be true, handing Hawaii a season opening loss 49-10. USC Coach Lane Kiffin and quarterback Matt Barkley spoke with the media following the win.
The Syracuse Orange face a daunting task in trying to defeat one of the nation's best on Saturday. CuseNation.com takes an in-depth look at what to expect from the USC Trojans.
Silas Redd signed with USC Coach Lane Kiffin a week before the opening of fall camp as headlines read that he was the missing piece found to a national championship puzzle. Redd made his debut in front of a sold-out Coliseum on Saturday.
A familiar face returned to practice a week ago wearing No. 39 as Simione Vehikite once again took the field with the Trojans. Vehikite sat out during the spring due to legal issues.
