Lane Kiffin says he feels for Penn State’s coaches who are trying to keep their program together despite losing multiple scholarships, but he doesn’t feel badly enough to refrain from making a recruiting pitch aimed at one of their top players. The LA Times reported on Monday that after Penn State was penalized by the NCAA, USC contacted the school about its intent to recruit sophomore running back Silas Redd, who rushed for 1,241 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Unprompted, Kiffin directed part of his introductory comments at Pac-12 media day on Tuesday toward Redd without specifically mentioning the Penn State player’s name. “Our No. 1 concern is our running back position,” Kiffin said. “We’re very concerned about our depth there. We’re going to have a lot of seven-man boxes, a lot of opportunity for a running back to make plays in our system, so we really have to a good job of developing some depth at running back.” Kiffin was later asked about USC’s interest in Silas. USC's Kiffin: Our No. 1 concern is running back

USC football coach Lane Kiffin refused to address his interest in Penn State running back Silas Redd, who reportedly is considering transferring in the wake of heavy NCAA sanctions against the Nittany Lions program. "We can't speak on any kids on their roster," Kiffin said Tuesday at the Pac-12 Conference media day. "They're like high school kids right now...

USC Trojans still pursuing Penn State’s Silas Redd

The USC Trojans are still pursuing Penn State’s Silas Redd, who hasn’t decided to leave Happy Valley for Hollywood, despite early reports that the tailback has committed to USC. Penn State running back Silas Redd is considering transferring to USC. Penn State's Silas Redd faces touch questions with no wrong answers

Should Silas Redd stay or go? It is a tough question for Penn State's top running back. Getty Images. The NCAA is allowing Penn State players a free transfer without having to sit out a season. The severity of the situation at Penn State may have drawn some criticism and debate over the penalties handed to Penn State but one thing that nobody has a real problem with is the...

Rumors Swirling: Silas Redd Could Transfer to USC

[ESPN] USC has notified Penn State of its interest in running back Silas Redd, a source told ESPN’s Joe Schad on Monday. The NCAA hit Penn State with a $60 million sanction, a four-year football postseason ban and forced the program to vacate all wins dating to 1998. The Twitter recruitment of Silas Redd

College recruitment can be a frightening kind of animal.  There's always been a certain aspect of recruiting that always takes place in the shadows.  When some of the darker elements of recruiting are brought to light, scandal often erupts.  While it's one thing for schools and coaches and representatives and even agents to be involved, it's quite another for...

No Comparison

There was little surprise Tuesday at Pac-12 Media Day that USC and head coach Lane Kiffin would be the center of attention. The Trojans are tabbed to win the Pac-12 Championship, they boast a Heisman Trophy frontrunner, and they've endured sanctions somewhat similar to those handed down to Penn State.

Silas Redd Could Be a Boon for the USC Trojans

So it begins.  The player exodus from Penn State following the child sex abuse scandal was inevitable, and its certainly not difficult to see why.   Twelve years of vacated wins, no-postseason play for four years, loss of scholarships, a $60 million fine and five years of probation.  While not the NCAA's dreaded "death penalty," the punishment is almost the equivalent...

What Has College Recruiting Come To?

Superstar quarterback Tate Martell gave the Washington Huskies a verbal commitment yesterday, which will set up some huge Pac 12 showdowns against recent USC quarterback commit David Sills. Unfortunately, this matchup will not come for quite some time, due to the fact that these young stars will not be playing at the collegiate level for a long, long time. The reason you may not...

Penn State Players Statement- We are StayingAs we know already, its Christmas time this summer in the world of college football.  In light of the NCAA sanctions on Penn State, 123 FBS programs are going on a shopping spree this week trying to pluck the best talent in State College away to their respective campuses.  While no official Nittany Lion has transferred…yet, the core...

5 PSU players I’d like to poach

To this point, I’ve decided to keep my opinions about the NCAA ruling and the entire PSU matter silent.  I am going to keep that monk-like vow because there really isn’t a need for another opinion out there.  Instead of the long Batman-like diatribe about justice, I’m going to look at the least subjective aspect of the ruling: the ability of players to transfer without any...

Joining his colleagues at Big Ten media day on Thursday, O'Brien said he and his players are ready to push hard against adversity. Penn State is facing plenty of that after the NCAA levied tough penalties on the program...
