Johnny Manziel appears to have ruined Fan Day at Louisville. Louisville and Charlie Strong have decided that it’s in the best interest of the school and the players to ban the signing of autographs during the meet-and-greet Fan Day. “I would like to personally apologize to our outstanding fans,” Louisville coach Charlie Strong said. “However, because of the national problem of autographed items appearing for sale on E-bay and other websites, we have made a proactive decision to hold an open practice for the fans and forgo an autograph session. “We have monitored the situation closely, and we decided to protect the eligibility of our players and operate under the principle that it not permissible to accept any type of compensation for their autograph or the sale of memorabilia,” Strong said. “I know this will disappoint a lot of our fans, especially the young children who look up to our players, but I strongly feel this is the best decision for our football program.” Louisville has also talked with quarterback Teddy Bridgewater regarding the items that are currently for sale on E-bay with his signature and are confident that Bridgewater did not commit any NCAA violations. “We have spoken with Teddy Bridgewater and we are comfortable that no NCAA violations have taken place,” Louisville said last week in a statement. This will inevitably become a point of discussion and it should be? Why can’t a little kid who looks up to Teddy Bridgewater and is a Louisville fan wait in a line for hours to get his autograph? How is that a NCAA violation? How is that even a potential NCAA violation? Of course it’s impossible to tell if a kid getting an autograph is actually a fan and not the kid of an autograph broker who is seeking to make money. Seems smart and dumb at the same time. UofL disallows autographs on fan day; some thoughts

Ninety-nine times out of one hundred, I agree with everything the University of Louisville athletic department does.
