If there is one thing I absolutely love about covering college football, it is getting a chance to head down to the field for the final moments of a game and witnessing the raw emotion that comes from the thrill of victory. Thursday night I got a chance to do that as Louisville topped Rutgers to win the Big East’s automatic BCS berth, in all likelihood. Here is how I saw the final moments of the 20-17 Cardinals victory unfold from field level. Some of the video may look a little rough but I managed to do what I could with my trusty little Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera. The jubilation of a conference championship is great to see and one of the best things about covering sports I would have to say. On the flip side of it all though is the agony of defeat. Rutgers opened up their doors to the media following the game and I decided to step inside locker room to see what some players had to say. Wide receiver Brandon Coleman, who caught one of the long touchdowns for Rutgers in the first half, was as hurt as I have ever seen a player following a loss. It was hard not to feel terrible for the kid, in all honesty. Coleman wore the pain of the loss very prominently with a very soft spoken voice, almost dazing in to the ground with very little to say other than “It hurts.” It looks as though Rutgers will be heading to the Russel Athletic Bowl to take on an ACC opponent. Meanwhile, the representatives from the Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl were on-hand last night. Louisville will likely head to the Sugar Bowl if Kent State reaches the BCS stage. The Orange Bowl would be the most likely bowl destination for Charlie Strong’s team if Kent State (or Boise State or Northern Illinois) do not crack the BCS top 16. Hype this up on BallHyped.
