John David Mercer-US PRESSWIRE The legend of Johnny Manziel continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Manziel’s meteoric rise from being a three-star recruit to potential Heisman finalist is close to outdoing that of the great Tim Tebow, in my opinion. Manziel did what some felt couldn’t be done, by driving the Alabama defense crazy and giving them fits. With that, Texas A&M was able to pull off a huge upset win on Saturday, being the first time to give the Crimson Tide a loss this season forcing them to knock them off of their No. 1 ranking. ESPN is reporting that the Manziel family is aware of the growing star their son has become, and has taken steps to have his now famous nickname “Johnny Football” trademarked. The Manziel family jumped to this position, after an organization called Kenneth R. Reynolds Family Investments, filed for the “Johnny Football” trademark. The company is based out of College Station, Texas and is reportedly named after a deceased Aggie booster. The attorney listed on the trademark filing has no known attachments to the Manziel family. Reports are that in order for the trademark not to affect Manziel’s eligibility, neither Texas A&M nor the Manziel family can sell anything with Johnny Football that has any direct connection to Johnny himself. The school will also now stop vendors from selling any such merchandise, according to the NCAA. ESPN business reporter Darren Rovell says that it could be years before Manziel himself even owns the trademark. Texas A&M reportedly stock school stores with No. 2 jerseys for the first time this past Friday and expected to need an even bigger shipment by Monday morning. The only other numbers available were the No. 12, which recognized the famous 12th man. Manziel will be the only Aggies player with a jersey available for purchase, which looks like more big business by the NCAA and Texas A&M.  Manziel may have to wait sometime before he is compensated for his skills.
