They always say you go pro or cash in when you are your hottest. USC quarterback Matt Barkley is finding that out the hard way after witness his preseason #1 ranked stumble to a terrible 7-6 record.
Barkley who had an unbelievable 2011 season threw 15 interceptions this year and looked frazzled at times. Barkley is fighting the stereotypes though and on ESPN’s The Herd, said “he’s still a top-tier quarterback.”
“People have been looking at stats over the past year, who’s hot, who’s not,” Barkley said Friday on “The Herd” on ESPN Radio. “We didn’t finish the year strong, I know that. But that doesn’t mean I’m any less of a quarterback this year. I’m excited just to put that back in people’s minds. Today I had the pleasure to talk with several NFL scouts and pick there brains about the Quarterbacks in the upcoming draft. Last year if you would have told me that Matt Barkley would be a second rounder I would have told you, your crazy. I still feel the same way this year, so I asked a few NFL scouts what they thought and it seemed as if they had a difference of opinions. ...
Former USC quarterback Matt Barkley will (apparently) not be throwing at the 2013 NFL Draft Combine. Technically, he’s “not sure” if he’ll throw. Either way, this isn’t earth-shattering news for a top quarterback prospect who expects to go high in the subsequent draft.
Except Barkley isn’t expected to go high in the draft. While he is the top-ranked quarterback according...

With the high level of success by NFL rookie quarterbacks you have to think teams like the Oakland Raiders are shaking their heads in disappointment for giving up what turned out to be valuable opportunities to gain immediate impact players.
