While Penn State was busy dominating Navy on Saturday, the Big Ten thought Michael Mauti and Deion Barnes were particularly dominant. Mauti was named the B1G Defensive Player of the Week and Barnes was selected as the B1G Co-Freshman of the Week. Not too shabby to pile on top of the Nittany Lions’ first win. Mauti racked up double-digit tackles for the second time this season and finished with a game-high 12 stops – 2 for a loss – and his first sack of the year. He leads the team with 33 tackles so far. His badassness in general didn’t seem to be a factor in the selection process. The redshirt freshman Barnes was only playing in his third career game but he’s been a force in each one. He only made 5 tackles but he picked up his third sack of the year and his second forced fumble of the year…sooo he’s on pace for 12 sacks and 8 forced fumbles? He’s a freshman. WOOOOO. Think it’s safe to say that Ted Roof’s defense has found its footing after getting torched by Ohio.

Penn St moves on after clearing next hurdle: a win

Penn State football's new era has cleared another hurdle. The 34-7 win over Navy was the first victory for rookie coach Bill O'Brien. It was also the first win since the NCAA slammed the school with strict sanctions in July. Linebacker Michael Mauti led the defense with 12 tackles. He says the win moves Penn State (1-2) another ''page forward'' and gives...

Week 2 recap: Lee takes league lead, still no sacks

It’s been an odd first two weeks for Nittany Lions in the NFL. To this point, there has been virtually no offense produced by Penn Staters. Evan Royster seems to be down to third-string and Michael Robinson can only do so much as a fullback. Even on the defensive side of the ball, a normally pass-rush heavy group has vastly underachieved. Granted, it’s still only week 2...

Emotional scene, Penn State team singing the Alma Mater

The pregame flyover prior to Penn State's week three game against Navy was pretty cool, but few images will resonate the way the postgame singing of the Penn State Alma Mater will for me, and I can only imagine that those with much closer ties and bonds to the Penn State community will agree. One of the new Penn State traditions head coach Bill O'Brien is bringing to the...
