Week 11 Maxwell Award Elite Going into last week it appeared Alabama was labeled unbeatable, defeating every thrown obstacle, but Texas A&M Freshman QB Johnny Manziel went against the Tide and took down the SEC Goliath. Manziel completed 24 of his 31 passing attempts for 253 yards and two touchdowns while rushing the ball 18 times for 92 yards. Even when pressured or throwing into double coverage, Manziel made multiple unbelievable throws and decisions while breaking down a NFL-like Alabama defense. On the season, the exciting “Johnny Football” has 33 total touchdowns (18 passing, 15 rushing). Week after week USC sophomore sensation WR Marqise Lee puts up astonishing numbers. In Week 11 against Arizona State, Lee registered 10 receptions for 161 yards and a touchdown, complimented with 66 rushing yards on six carries. Lee now has four straight games of 100 receiving yards or more with at least one touchdown. On the year, Lee is 2 catches shy of 100 receptions and leads the nation with 1,447 receiving yards to go along with his 14 total touchdowns. Florida State QB EJ Manuel had another coming of age game throwing for 326 yards and three touchdowns including a game-winning 39-yard touchdown with 40 seconds left to defeat Virginia Tech.  On the season, the senior has thrown for 2,641 yards and 19 touchdowns as he currently leads all Maxwell Award Semifnalists with a QB Rating of 169.3. Week 11 Chuck Bednarik Award Elite Presented By Cracker Barrel In a shutout win against Auburn, Georgia LB Jarvis Jones collected four tackles and two sacks, giving him 10.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss on the season. Despite missing two games, the explosive pass rusher still ranks top ten nationally in both categories. The South Carolina sophomore DE Jadeveon Clowney recorded two tackles for loss including a sack giving him 9.5 on the season. The 6-6 dominant defensive force, has been repeatedly called a “skilled athletic freak” and he continues to live up to that description every Saturday. Rutgers LB Khaseem Greene earned Big East Defensive Player of the Week with his performance of 22 tackles (career-high), one pass broken up, and one forced fumble against Army. Greene leads all Chuck Bednarik Semifinalists with 96 total tackles, and leads the entire nation with six forced fumbles. Despite a 38-17 loss to the Trojans, Arizona State DT Will Sutton registered eight tackles (tying his career-high), along with two tackles for loss and a sack. Sutton has emerged as the best defensive tackle in the Pac-12 perhaps even the country, and NFL scouts have taken notice as he has captured their attention with his quickness and versatility. The Sun Devil now has 50 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, five passes broken up, and two forced fumbles in his impressive breakout season. After an upset over Alabama, Texas A&M DE Damontre Moore has further placed himself in the limelight.  Moore totaled five tackles including one sack, positioning him first in the nation in sacks (12.5) and tackles for loss (20). Moore still doesn’t get the national recognition he deserves as he still remains unknown by many, but he should be a household name come Bowl season. Week 12 Maxwell Award Semifinalist Shootouts No. 21 USC vs. No. 17 UCLA The most heated Pac-12 rival matchup is here, and it comes with the most combined offensive power since recent memory. USC will be led by the lethal connection of QB Matt Barkley and WR Marqise Lee. Barkley ranks second in the nation with 33 passing touchdowns and Lee ranks first in receptions and receiving yards, and to top it off, third in receiving touchdowns. Meanwhile UCLA is led by senior RB Johnathan Franklin, who has seven games of at least 100 rushing yards. Franklin has a spectacular average of 6.4 yards per carry and stands seventh overall nationally with 1,270 rushing yards. A lot is on the line here, as the winner will advance to the Pac-12 Championship Game. No. 6 Ohio State vs. Wisconsin Despite or in spite of Ohio State’s ineligibility, the Buckeyes come into Madision with an undefeated record led by their developing and elusive QB Braxton Miller. Miller has already ran for over 1,000 yards (1,166), and is closing in on 2,000 yards passing (1,753).  No team has been able to truly contain Miller has he has 14 passing touchdowns and 13 rushing touchdowns. Offensively for the Badgers, after a huge performance last week against Indiana (198 rushing yards and three touchdowns), RB Montee Ball currently ranks second on the all-time career touchdown list, and could crack the record with two touchdowns against OSU. On the year, Ball has 1,2226 rushing yards with 16 rushing touchdowns. Week 12 Chuck Bednarik Award Semifinalists to Watch Presented by Cracker Barrel Note Dame LB Manti Te’o will go up against a Wake Forest that averages just over 300 yards and 20 points per game.  Te’o should have a bounce back game statistically after recording a season-low five tackles. Ohio State DT Johnathan Hankins has plugged up the middle all year long. And Hankins will be mainly responsible for Montee Ball bouncing his runs outside multiple times, because if he doesn’t Hankins will make sure he pays the price. -Schotz
