Make no mistake – it was the defense that carried Michigan State to a 26-13 win over Western Michigan, not the Spartans’ offense. The unit scored two touchdowns, including on an amazing interception by Jarius Jones that was then laterally tossed to Kurtis Drummond for the first score of the season.
Michigan State continues to have quarterback issues, and after Friday night’s performance that featured both Connor Cook and Andrew Maxwell, there is still no clear cut starter. While Maxwell seemed to have a better game through the air, Cook showed his ability to run with the ball. Still, neither was able to get the offense going much at all.
After a rain delay, with only half of the crowd returning for the remainder of the game, it was obvious that fans were getting antsy about the offense. Some even started a “We Want Terry” chant – a reference to reserve QB Damion Terry. Neither Terry nor third-strong signal-caller Tyler O’Connor played, but both have potent...

EAST LANSING — “We want Terry!”
Those words echoed throughout Spartan Stadium in Michigan State’s 26-13 season opening victory over Western Michigan Friday night. After the offense put together multiple possessions of minimal productivity and yawn-worthy drives, the Michigan State football fans began cheering for a new name, a name they had never even seen play.
Football season is well underway, as the first weekend of action is over for college. Michigan State’s defense was outstanding in the Spartans 26-13 win. The offense? Not so much. The defense actually outscore them 14-13. Both Andrew Maxwell and Connor Cook struggled at quarterback and the fans and media are calling for a change. Maybe they should choose from these guys who are...
EAST LANSING — Two touchdowns, three interceptions, five sacks, 11 pass breakups and nine tackles for a loss.
Those numbers are the result of a vicious Michigan State defense having their way with a helpless Western Michigan offense in the Spartans 26-13 season opening victory at Spartan Stadium Friday night.
The defense, who didn’t score a touchdown last season, put points on...
The 2013 college football season is just two days old, but we may not see a better interception the rest of the season than the one made by Michigan State junior safety Kurtis Drummond on Friday, in the Spartans' 26-13 victory over the Western Michigan Broncos.
Check out video of Drummond making this absurd one-handed interception:
And here's the play in GIF form (thanks to @
I don’t always get excited about interceptions, but when I do, it’s for plays like the one Michigan State safety Kurtis Drummond made in the first quarter of Friday night’s game against Western Michigan—this come’s after the safety scores a touchdown off of a Jairus Jones pick.

Michigan State star sophomore guard Gary Harris will sidelined four to eight weeks after a bad sprain during a pick up game with teammates according to MLive.
Michigan State is scheduled to hold its first official practice Sept. 27, leaving Harris doubtful for that Midnight Madness as well.
He is expected to return for Michigan State’s first exhibition game on Oct. 29.
EAST LANSING — Michigan State standout sophomore shooting guard Gary Harris will be sidelined 4-8 weeks after injuring his right ankle in open gym on Friday. Michigan State basketball spokesman Matt Larson informed isportsweb of the injury on Friday, and added that the Spartans will begin practice in about four weeks with their first regular season game being about ten weeks away...
Michigan State took time during its season opener on Friday night against Western Michigan to casually mention that basketball season is just around the corner. "And by casually mention, I mean showing a video with members of the Spartans men's basketball team donning football uniforms - pad, helmets, and all.
Sadly Tom Izzo didn't join in foray into cosplay with...
The 2013 College Football season got off to a bang this week with opening games across the country. While we still have another day of games ahead of us, I believe we already have seen one of the best plays of the year. Watch below courtesy of Kegs ‘N Eggs as Michigan State cornerback Kurtis […]
With Izzone tickets going on sale Wednesday September 4, it is time to start thinking about basketball season again. During Friday night’s football game against Western Michigan University, Spartan Stadium showed a 52-second video which featured the MSU men’s basketball team playing football in all the proper gear.
Gary Harris also tweeted out a funny photo of himself and Adreian...
Not sure if this should of counted as the Jarius Jones’ knee looked to be down, but it was so close it’s hard to make a determination. Nice little play by the defense, which will need to do a lot of this if the offense struggles. See the GIF below:
