(dying laughing) JR Mathes pitched 7 innings and allowed only 3 hits and an earned run. He walked 2 and struck one batter out. Mathes has outstanding control. he’s walked just 5 in 45 innings, but has struckout only 18. That’s still close to a 4:1 K to BB ratio. he’s allowed 48 hits and his ERA is 3.40. Tennessee Smokies (AA) Birmingham Barons 3 (White Sox), Tennessee Smokies 5 Steve Clevenger was 3-4 and is now hitting .365/.447/.527. Jay Jackson got the win for the Smokies as he threw 6 innings and allowed just 3 hits and a run. He walked 3 and struckout 8. In 45.1 innings this year he’s allowed 44 hits, 18 walks and 47 strikeouts. Batters have hit just .257 against him. He got off to a rough start as he allowed 14 earned runs on 20 hits over his first 13.1 innings spanning 3 starts. Since then he’s made 5 starts and has thrown at least 6 innings in all of them. He’s thrown 32 innings and has allowed 25 hits and just 4 earned runs while walking 11 and striking out 35. John Gaub worked a scoreless 9th inning for the save. Daytona Cubs (A+) Rain, rain, rain, flood, flood, flood Peoria Chiefs (A-) South Bend Silver Hawks (d-backs) 2, Peoria Chiefs 3 Josh Vitters hit his 10th home run of the season as he went 2-4. Justin Bristow started for the Chiefs and did something special today. He managed to pitch 3.1 innings and allow 7 hits while also walking 2 and only 1 Silver Hawk scored. 9 baserunners allowed in just over 3 innings and only 1 run. That’s interesting.
