As the head football coach of Mississippi State, I’m sure Dan Mullen preaches to his players that they need to play hard for 60 minutes.  Thursday night, at a Starkville, Mississippi Buffalo Wild Wings, Mullen had to preach to himself to play hard for five minutes.

That was the length of time Mullen (seen middle in the top picture and on the left in the left photo) and his fellow contestants had to eat as many chicken wings as possible.  Like his Bulldogs have so far this season, Mullen ate away the competition.  He finished 24 wings in the allotted five minutes – averaging 12.5 seconds per wing.  The second place finisher chowed 21 and third place finished with 15.  As a chicken wing snob, it’s obvious that the competition was not at an SEC-level.  BW3 wings are definitely not among the largest wings in the country so the meat to wing ratio is more Conference USA or Mountain West.

“It’s not really a Man vs. Food type challenge to where you get to the point of it being painful,” Mullen said after the competition. He also said he had room for more.

I’d like to see Dan put his championship belt on the line against some of college football’s BIG dogs, BCS style, Brady Hoke of Michigan and Charlie Weis of Kansas.
