The Auburn Tigers finished their 2012 season with a 49-0 defeat to Alabama on Saturday in the Iron Bowl. The Crimson Tide recorded their second highest point total in the rivalry’s history. Alabama scored seven touchdowns. Auburn had seven first downs. The Tigers crossed midfield just twice.
The loss dropped Auburn to 3-9 on the season and they were winless (0-8) in conference play. Head coach Gene Chizik was fired.
The weekend wasn’t particularly good for those supporting the blue/orange half of one of college football’s more well known rivalries, unless you made a purchase from Alabama jeweler Jeff Dennis. He ran a promotion to refund the sale price of purchases made from November 16-23 if either Alabama or Auburn were shutout.
“There were some tense moments in my house in the 3rd and 4th quarter and I was probably the only home that was a little concerned but it’s all good I’m insured so we’re having fun,” said Dennis.
Dennis says that Lloyd’s underwriters will be on the hook for about$50,000, though it will take a few days to total everything up. One customer will get around$7,000, Dennis said, and 300 or so customers in all will get their money back. “We’re going to have a big refund party soon,” he said.
Jeff Dennis gets some extra advertising and an always welcomed bump in business while anyone who bought something from him who happens to be an Auburn fan will receive some consolation for a bitter loss and tough season. There’s always a silver lining.
Auburn has experienced quite the roller coaster ride over the last four years. After going 8-5 in Gene Chizik’s first season, the Tigers completed...
While Gene Chizik and the rest of his merry men are looking for jobs as of this posting, Trooper Taylor—a man who is currently under investigation by the NCAA—has been allowed to stay in order to “continue recruiting duties in an effort to hold Auburn’s current class of commitments together” (at least that’s according to Phillip Marshall of Auburn Undercover). Now, this...
Keep in mind this interview was conducted prior to the firing of Gene Chizik and, as of today, the future of Chizik’s former staff—including Brian Van Gorder, Willie Martinez, and Trooper Taylor—remains in limbo. Given the closeness of these two players and the situation surrounding Auburn’s football program, could Foster finally decide to pull the trigger? Keep an ear on...
Florida coach Will Muschamp will gladly switch spots with Nick Saban if the Alabama coach doesn't like the way the Bowl Championship Series plays out.
Saban says it isn't fair that the fifth-ranked Gators likely will play in the Sugar Bowl over the loser of Saturday's Southeastern Conference title game. No. 2 Alabama plays No. 3 Georgia with the winner advancing to the...
AUBURN, Ala. — Gene Chizik led Auburn to perhaps the greatest season in the program’s history, and two years later to maybe its worst.
The rapid fall from a national championship to 3-9 and the Southeastern Conference doormat led to Chizik’s firing Sunday, the day after a humbling 49-0 loss to No. 2 Alabama that showed just how far the program has slipped.
The Tigers endured...
No. 2 Alabama's once-deep receiving corps has been hit by its third big injury.
The Crimson Tide lost deep threat Kenny Bell to a broken leg against Auburn, marking the third major hit among receivers this season. It has left a thinned-out group facing No. 3 Georgia in Saturday's Southeastern Conference championship game.
Coach Nick Saban said Monday he's considering...
Breaking down the quarterbacks, Georgias Aaron Murray and Alabamas AJ McCarron, in Saturdays SEC Championship Game:
Theyre asked to do to different things in their systems.
With AJ McCarron, some people think its a knock on a guy to be called a game-manager. I think thats a compliment, because as a quarterback you have to manage games, you have to manage situations and I think...
With the firing of Gene Chizik at Auburn, something we've kind of predicted would happen all along with our Chizik Watch series, it's sometimes nice to go back to where it all started. The guy at the airport was a prophet.
Auburn running back Tre Mason discusses the firing of coach Gene Chizik at Auburn.
Auburn's Jay Jacobs talks about the firing of coach Gene Chizik and what they'll be looking for in a new coach.
The Victory Formation has learned that Auburn head coach Gene Chizik was fired earlier today. An official announcement will be out soon. Gene Chizik went 4-8 this season, which included a very lopsided loss to instate rival Alabama yesterday. Two years ago the coach was given an extension after leading the Auburn Tigers to the [...]
In a move that the college football world has been expecting for weeks, Gene Chizik has been fired as the head football coach at Auburn.
Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs released a statement which read in part:
After suffering some tough losses in a transition year in 2011, we had hoped our team would show improvement this season. Unfortunately, it has not. The competition...
Jaquay Williams inked with Auburn out of high school, but ended up taking the scenic route through Fork Union Military Academy. With a coaching change taking place on the Plains of Auburn, Williams is considering other options. See a few clops of Williams in action this season in this FOXSportsNext video presentation.
Poor Auburn fans. They went from celebrating a national championship in 2010, to a horrible 3-9 season in 2012 that was punctuated by an...
