If you are looking for the weirdest injury in college football this season, you have to at least consider the one that transpired at Grand Valley State, a D-II school in the state of Michigan.

The Lakers are expected to be without starting defensive lineman Isiah Dunning for four to six weeks after he was accidentally hit by a pickup truck driven by a teammate.

The accident occurred after an early morning workout as team members headed to eat breakfast at a campus cafeteria.

“Isiah was walking along the grass, stepped out from the curb and Zach Jolly, one of our guys, struck him with a pickup truck,” head coach Matt Mitchell said. “EMS was called and, it was kind of bad at the time, but after the X-rays and CAT scans, it was nothing life-threatening. But he will be out four to six weeks and that’s very tough.”

Grand Valley Police Department Captain Brandon DeHaan said Jolly’s pickup truck moved over as a vehicle approached the other direction on a service road. At that moment, Dunning stepped further into the road, he said.

Jolly's vehicle was reportedly only traveling at a speed of about 5 mph before plowing Dunning over. The junior suffered a dislocated shoulder along with with neck pain and back spasms.

“It was just one of those things that happens out of nowhere; I was just hit and was falling toward the ground,” Dunning said. “My face was falling toward the curb and I put my right arm out to break my fall and that’s when my shoulder dislocated.”

Dunning said he holds no negative feelings toward his teammate and hopes to get back to the field as soon as possible.

Dunning appeared in 11 games last season and recorded 14 tackles.
