Katherine Webb, perhaps the most famous girlfriend in the history of college football, made an appearance on the Today show on Wednesday morning. In an exclusive interview with Matt Lauer, Webb says she believes that no apology was necessary from ESPN for what some perceived as inappropriate comments made by Brent Musburger during the broadcast of the national championship game between Alabama and Notre Dame on Monday night.

Webb says she had little idea that she was the spark igniting a firestorm online as cameras focused upon her as she sat in the stands and watched boyfriend AJ McCarron and his Crimson Tide teammates obliterate the Fighting Irish. Now that she has learned that she was the object of Musburger’s admiration, she is more “flattered by the attention” than anything and that Musburger’s comments did not rise to the level of being disrespectful, nor did those comments require ESPN to apologize, something the network did via a statement issued on Tuesday.

Webb, when discussing her reaction to Musburger's comments about her as well as AJ McCarron's mother, told Lauer: “I think the media has been real unfair to him. I think that if he would have said something along the lines of we were hot or sexy or made any derogatory statements like that, I think that would have been a little bit different. But the fact that he said we were both beautiful and gorgeous, I don’t see why any woman wouldn’t be flattered by that. So, I think that they’ve been a little bit unfair to him.”

Lauer followed up, asking Webb, “So no reason for ESPN to apologize in your opinion?” Webb doesn't believe so, saying, "You know I don’t think it was needed, honestly. I mean, of course I appreciate it but at the same I don’t think that I needed an apology.”

Below is video of what caused the entire controversy:

65 Comments:
  • I watched the game and saw nothing inappropriate or offensive (and I'm a 62 year old woman). We've taken all this political correctness stuff to an absurd extreme.
  • Look we were supposed to be watching a football game and not making rude statements about this woman. ESPN tried to keep viewers from changing channels by constantly showing her and Brent the Bent kept doing what he always has, make stupid statements. Can we please just do the game and not constantly keep showing family and girlfriends in the stands. And then she ends up on the Today Show, guess what she's after.
  • I agree with you Brent. I see exactly what you see. Yessirree Bob!!!!!!
  • McCarron's time here is limited. Webb has her ambitious eyes on ownership material.
  • I don't think it was really any more inappropriate than the hundreds of other idiotic statements that poured out of him over the course of the game. The guy really needs to stop scanning the stands for eye-candy to deposit in his spank bank and learn to count by 5's. He's lucky to be able to find the line of scrimmage within 10 yards.
  • I don't think Brent is gettin' any at home. Start throwin' the football aroung Brent, maybe you'll catch one of them Alabama chicks. Seriously though, she is gorgeous and comes across very personable and sweet in the interview. She is handling herself with a lot of class. I did think it was funny (Freudian slip?) that Mussberger referred to McCarron's mother as Mrs "Boner"...lol
  • I'm sorry, she's is pretty but not beautiful, I don't like her mouth and smile. don't like her jaw bone structure, sorry she is not all that to talk about. Jessica Lang is beautiful.
  • What planet are you from?
  • She's almost ugly. Looks like a Transvestite to me. If this is all AL has to offer, they need to stick to football.
  • Wouldn't call her ugly, but she does look like one of those transvestites that might fool ya. Sorta mannish face.
  • Agreed. Her jawline is very masculine.
  • Katherine Webb is not only very attractive, SHE HAS CLASS!! To say ESPN and Brent have nothing to apologize about!! The FOX News stirs the pot on anything they report. VERY CLASSY LADY!!!!
  • Do you know her personally? Think about how it made his teammates and their girlfriends feel.
  • Enough!!!! It should be a football game being discussed by a football announcer...and Brent becomes like a H.S. dweeb. I can see a comment but not a huge deal. This is worth a story? It's about football, come on man.
  • I'm already sick of her. She'll dump that little pri$k she's dating in a month, after her 15 minutes are up. And trust me, she knew where every camera on that field was Monday night. She is somewhat cute, even with a horsehead. Not to mention, this is a woman, and McCarron looks like her little brother
  • Jelous just a little? He is the quarterback on the best college team on the planet.
  • On the planet? How do you know?
  • She is striking, but she reminds me of those emails that show women before and after a glamor make up job.
  • So true!!! She's downright ugly!!! But then, its Alabama and they are used to animals.
  • Just like the lady said, the media, much like everything else, is blowing this way out of proportion. Looking at that idiot matt lauer, he seemed upset that Miss Webb wasn't angry about the comments. Typical nbc trash.
  • I am not surprised at all that you did not add my comment about Matt Lauer being a sell out in this matter. This interview, like many of his others, is just an embarrassment bringing out what make television so bad. No biggie though, just business as usual, eh? Thanks anyway and good luck to you,
    Sincerely, Motor Mouth
  • I'm already sick of her. She'll dump that little pri$k she's dating in a month, after her 15 minutes are up. And trust me, she knew where every camera on that field was Monday night. She is somewhat cute, even with a horsehead.
  • Yes I thought we were talking about a game. I'm very pretty too, now can we move one. She not the prettiest in the world get over it. Stop slobbing over someone who wouldn't give a nobody a second look think about.
  • Wow! "i'm very pretty too?"
  • Wow! "I'm very pretty too"?????? Jealous much?
  • Please God,protect us from stupid people who "think" they are correct when a good person compliments another. These p.c. dopes are ruining our country.
  • The apology should be from the Today show for choosing Matt Lauer to interview her.
  • Brent Mussberger may have gone overboard a little...but he didn't do anything wrong. This PC crap has made everyone waaaayyy to sensitive.
@ lazer26...you need your glasses adjusted an yes or perhaps your perspective...this lady is classy and gorgeous!!
  • Only if you are into men!!!
  • No wonder he's dating an Auburn girl. What do you call a good looking girl on the Bama campus??

    A visitor.
  • HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
  • What did he do wrong? He complemented a pretty, not beautiful in my account, woman. The media is so stupid.
  • Wow! humility, class, and beauty. Way to go Ms Webb. Hey brewzky, maybe you should have a few less brews, and then you might be able to appreciate this lady for who she is, and what you are not!
  • She's a pretty girl, but the mom is "HOT." Hey! It's all in the eyes of the beholder...right?
  • Meanwhile Jason Whitlock can continue to be a racist piece of s***.

  • Seems to have a few traits that Gretzky's daughter should pay attention to. :)
  • :) :) :) Face it...stop being so critical...SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! But that isn't the point...She has class and elegance and charm...her parents can be extremely proud...and even guys that are a tad bit too old for her...guys like Brent and I ....we aren't blind...and it isn't perversion to say "WOW..She is just sooo appealing!!" It is just fun to see such an unassuming and likeable...seemingly unpretentious and genuine young lady...and it doesn't mean anything more!!! Brent is an upstanding and solid guy!!! Jeepers (how'd ya like that one?) can you let it go?? I chuckled when I first heard his comments...never figuring that they would create a national fervor of seismic proportions!! :) :)
  • OMG I can see it dripping out your mouth fool.
  • 1. Watch her interview with Matt Lauer on Today - if she was not offended, then why is everyone so up in arms? She was very gracious.
    2. Say someone is ugly and you are mean-spirited. Say someone is beautiful and you are a creepy letch? She's a beauty queen, after all.
    3. Natural selection has been around for a very long time, and if you weren't a good hunter/gatherer/provider your genes had less of a chance of being passed on. AJ looks like he has some pretty good genes.
    4. Just because you are beautiful - and all "masculine" comments aside, she is gorgeous - doesn't mean you are not smart. What do Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Stephen Hawking and Jill St.John all have in common? I.Q.'s in the 160's.
    5. Males are always going to look at pretty females. If you don't believe that, just review the clip from the game and concentrate on the boy to Katherin Webb's left.
    6. It seems like ESPN was too quick to pull the trigger with their apology. You may not like Brent Musberger for other reasons, but this shouldn't be one of them.
  • I'm a straight, middle-aged woman, and I think she's gorgeous when she's not smiling and merely beautiful when she does! I saw her picture on the internet yesterday and thought, that is a beautiful woman! After reading her comments in the article, she seems as beautiful inside as she certainly is on the outside.
  • Do you really think she doesn't get it? ... Do you really think she doesn't know that she is drop dead gorgeous? For goodness sake, her DNA needs to be spread around the world like a cure for some pandemic episode. At this month's ceremony my wife would probably push me aside and say "I do" ...
But the problem is that she opened her mouth and we all realized she's not a mindless bimbo. She's smart, articulate, capable of handling a media "sensation" with a calm deamenor and a sense of "royalty" that would have befit Diana. I am clueless who she picks as a husband/partner ... quarterback, doctor, political leader, or whatever. But I'll bet it'll be a smart decision ... a "how can I change the World" decision.
    Murdog
  • She's a beautiful young woman, however Musburger didn't need to keep gushing...he made a complete fool of himself and came across as a creepy old man.
  • Katherine Webb reminds me of a young Kathy Ireland in her younger years. She is a nice looking girl. Certainly her appearance did not warrant those borderline sexist remarks. Brent could have just stated she was pretty and kept it moving!
  • So Musberger compliments someone and its a huge contoversy, but Jamie Foxx says how great it would be to kill white people, and nothing.....this world is F'D up.
  • The only thing in that stadium hotter than Webb was the Alabama exuction of Notre Dame.Anyone who found the game dull were ND fans.If you really like football you had to enjoy the nearly flawless performance of the offense and defense doing almost whatever they wanted when it was predicted they could not.
  • Really? I became quite bored with it, to be honest with you. And you're wrong; I'm not even close to being a fan of the Irish.

In fact, I am a former student of Texas A&M University and well, we all know how 'bama fared against us this season; our first year in the SEC.
  • I don't understand what the big deal is. She's a beautiful woman, but beautiful woman are a dime a dozen. I don't think Brent said anything offensive, I just don't think there was any reason to go on and on about it.
  • No, he wasn't offensive at all. I think its kind of surprising cause the quarterback is not attractive at all. And she is so ugly when she opens her mouth. Big bucky teeth! She looks like a man.
  • Musberger was digusting: and Herbstreet has cheated on his wife, so I'm not surprised by him.
  • Hey, lazer26, Jessica iws ok even if she is crosseyed.
  • Let's address the real reason Brent went ape over Katherine (besides the obvious fact that she's stunning and easy to look at...) --- the Crimson Tide was rolling Notre Dame all over that field. Seriously, he had to do something to keep viewers engaged! That was one of the most boring, yawn-inducing championship title games I've ever watched --- so, excuse the 80 yr old Musburger for drooling over the pageant queen. He was just trying to keep us from turning the channel.

And the people knockin' on Webb's looks? Probably are women; jealousy isn't a very cute trait.
  • She knew where every camera was and she will be leaving little D bag QB soon. Now that's she's known she'll start with the pro athletes and leave little junior behind. She's cute even though she has a horsehead and somewhat manly features.
  • You've had a few too many brewzkys if you think that girl looks like a man. Or you're not wearing your glasses.
  • I am 85 years old. I feel better, younger when I see a pretty lady. She is that.
  • Whew...she is one beautiful woman!
What a lucky guy AJ is.
  • Good one brewzky. I laughed out loud.

  • Boy, is ESPN not tuned-in to thw current USA culture. It is about time some sport broadcasters got it right: and Musberger
did a service to ALL of the TV viewers. Good job " Brent ".
  • What a nice young lady, obviously smart as well as beautiful and gracious. Truly a class act. Not a combination you see very often these days. That was a hint ladies.
  • All these comments and nobody pointed out the obvious. Had she not been a beauty queen (Miss whatever) I don't know that the announcer would have made such a big deal. Anyone who thinks it was wrong or creepy to comment on her looks really doesn't understand that when you are a beauty queen things like that happen. If you are a beauty queenand someone comments on your looks, why would you be offended? Start using your brain people!
  • Too bad the players on the field don't know all about the ladies who are checking out their booties in those tight pants, especially when they do the reruns in slow-mo....mmm goodness, all that muscle...whew !!
  • Wow I can not believe how many people here are such mean people. I mean this lady and I use that term because she is,has been nothing but sweet and gracious. Some of you could use a lession on good manners. Ms. Webb just hold your head up and dont worry about what others think!
  • Sorry not pretty or cute... looks like a TRANNY TO ME...LONG NECK STRONG BONE STRUCTURE....
