Navy QB Kriss Proctor led the Midshipmen to a 24-17 victory over SMU today despite zero passing yards. In fact, Proctor only threw the ball twice, both being incomplete (he did have one complete pass, but it was to the other team). “I love it,” Proctor joked. “I didn’t complete a pass. I threw a pick. I guess that counts as a completion.” Where Proctor failed in the aerial attack, he more than made up in the ground game. The senior quarterback was the top team rusher amassing 107 yards in 17 attempts. The team combined for 335 total rushing yards in what was a must win game for Navy. Navy fans shouldn’t be too shocked as it was only a few years ago (2008) that Navy beat SMU without completing a pass. This dramatic win puts Navy (4-6) in a position to become bowl eligible. If Navy can close the season with a win against San Jose State and Army, Navy can punch their ticket to the Military Bowl.

Defending Their Honor
A team that suffered six straight losses and had its heart ripped out of its body could have shrugged its shoulders a few weeks ago and said, “To heck with the 2011 season.” Instead, the Navy Midshipmen – especially their defense – refused to give up the ship. As a result, this autumn still possesses a precious portion of possibility in Annapolis.
