Maxwell Award Player of the Week- UGA QB Aaron Murray – 298 passing yards and five total touchdowns against LSU Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Pitt DT Aaron Donald – Two sacks, two quarterback hurries, and one forced fumble against Virginia. Maxwell Award: What we noticed Despite a loss to the arm of Aaron Murray, LSU QB Zach Mettenberger silenced any remaining doubters with a terrific performance. The senior threw for 372 yards and three touchdowns, marking his third game with three or more touchdown passes. In his first game since Week Two, QB Braxton Miller returned from injury to carry the Buckeyes over a gritty Wisconsin unit to maintain OSU’s undefeated record.  Miller was extremely productive, with four passing touchdowns on just 17 completions. He also added 83 yards on the ground, giving him 281 total yards on the day. South Carolina escaped an upset against UCF with the help of breakout RB Mike Davis. Although Davis was quiet in the first half, he turned it up in second to finish with 167 rushing yards and three touchdowns. This was Davis’ third time rushing for over 115 yards, and he’s registered at least one touchdown in each of his four games. Chuck Bednarik Award: What we noticed TCU CB Sam Carter came up huge against SMU with five tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, and two interceptions, one of which he returned 66 yards for a touchdown. He’ll need to be a playmaker once against next weekend when TCU travels to Norman to play Oklahoma. Ohio State LB Ryan Shazier continued to be disruptive with nine tackles, 2.5 going for a loss, along with one quarterback hurry and one forced fumble. Shazier proved once again to be the anchor of the defense, as the Buckeyes managed to slow down a potent Wisconsin offense. Oklahoma LB Corey Nelson helped defeat the Fighting Irish with one pass broken, one quarterback hurry, and a significant interception returned for a touchdown. The senior will look to remain a threat against Kansas State this weekend. Maxwell Award: Matchups to watch this week Braxton Miller (QB, Ohio State) vs. Northwestern Ohio State will enter its second tough game in a row, but this one won’t be in comfortable Columbus. In Miller’s short sample, he’s been highly effective, but has yet to play a team as fast as Northwestern. This will be Miller’s first and last time playing against the Wildcats.   Jameis Winston (QB, Florida State) vs. Maryland Winston has shined through his first four games and will now face his first test against undefeated ACC opponent Maryland. The Terrapins defense has been stellar and has only allowed 165.3 passing yards per game, but it hasn’t seen a quarterback like Winston yet. Mark Weisman (RB, Iowa) vs. Michigan State Weisman has helped carry the Hawkeyes to a 4-1 record so far with four games of 100 yards or more. He’ll look to upset Michigan State, a team that has only let up 13.3 points per game. Chuck Bednarik: Matchups to watch this week Jonathan Brown (LB, Illinois) vs. Nebraska Illinois has been a phenomenal surprise out of the Big Ten, and with a win over Nebraska, the Illini can push into Top 25 talks. Brown has been the team leader on defense and will need an impactful performance to upset the Huskers. E.J. Gaines (CB, Missouri) vs. Vanderbilt Gaines has been exceptional thus far and leads the team in interceptions and tackles. He’ll go up against top SEC WR Jordan Matthews, who already has four games of 100 receiving yards or more. This battle can easily decide if Mizzou remains undefeated or not. Shayne Skov (LB, Stanford) & Trent Murphy (LB) vs. Washington The Stanford defense faces a much-improved Washington offense that averages nearly 40 points per game. Skov and Murphy are both great playmakers, and will need to step up and control RB Bishop Sankey on the ground and disrupt TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins in coverage. -Schotz
