John Papuchis’s squad had some early season struggles, but also some early season bright spots. Unfortunately, due to the excellence that the team enjoyed in the early season, the return units did not do as well as they would have liked. Let’s take a look and some good, and not so good spots. Nebraska’s special teams unit had quite the busy game against the Fresno State Bulldogs. It started off not so well for the punt coverage unit, as they completely blew coverage, which allowed Fresno State to take the punt back 67 yards for a touchdown, and the lead at 7-0. After the Huskers offense finally got themselves together, they had an 8 point lead until a Bulldogs touchdown cut that to two. Then, on probably the best play of the year for the special teams, Abdullah returned the kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. The rest of the year for the kickoff coverage was solid.
