Nebraska fans are known as some of the most passionate college football fans in the country. Not only do they pack Memorial Stadium in Lincoln to watch the Cornhuskers every time out, they also travel to away games in hordes.
Sometimes, to be able to attend road games, these Husker fans have to take some extraordinary measures.
Beau Baumert is definitely one of these fans.
To score a ticket to the Nebraska/Wisconsin matchup on Saturday, Baumert made a decision based on economics, but one that looks awfully strange on the surface.
For a donation of $50 to the Badgers’ football foundation, plus the $250 cost, Baumert became a season ticket holder for Wisconsin football– thus earning a ticket to the game on Saturday. This cost was far less than the cost of trying to buy a single ticket from a broker for what promises to be one of the most captivating games of the early 2011 season.
He is reportedly selling the remaining tickets on StubHub to Wisconsin fans at or below face value, keeping a ticket to the matchup with Penn State in Madison for himself.
It’s an interesting approach that probably has some Nebraska fans calling foul.
Say what you will, necessity is the mother of invention, and in this case it was necessary for Beau Baumert to do something a little outside of the box to reach his goal.
Baumert doesn’t even really consider himself a die-hard:
“Everyone outside Nebraska calls us crazy,” Baumert said in a phone interview. “Actually there are much more diehard fans out there than me.”
If he’s not a die-hard, I’d be interested to meet someone who is.
