You could probably ask five different draft experts who their favorite safety prospect is and get five different answers. Actually you could say that about most of the positions in this draft. There just isn’t much elite and polished talent in this year’s draft. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a ton of depth, because there is, but most positions don’t have that “sure-fire” guy.
For me, Eric Reid is the closest thing to an elite safety prospect this year. Physically he looks and plays the part. He is 6’2, 210-215, he’s athletic and plenty fast enough for the position(that will be confirmed at the combine).
Reid’s major knocks from scouts are his inconsistent effort, his open field tackling and the fact that he isn’t as versatile as other safety prospect like Kenny Vaccaro and T.J. McDonald. They can keep their versatility, Reid is much better at what he does. He may not be is capable of lining up as a slot corner at times, but he is an outstanding centerfielder safety prospect.
