A night after barely keeping a streak that's been intact since 1953 alive thanks to Wisconsin's Travis Frederick the Big Ten showed themselves much, much better with six players going on night two of the NFL Draft over the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

The 2nd round was where it was at for Big Ten selections as four of the six picks from league schools went in a star-studded round. In a not so surprising bit of news the first B1G player off the board was former Purdue defensive tackle Kawann Short, who went 12th in the 2nd round (44th overall) to the Carolina Panthers.

However, in the unexpected category it was Le'Veon Bell and not Montee Ball that was the first running back off the board from the B1G. Bell would go 48th overall to the Pittsburg Steelers. He would be the first of back-to-back B1G players selected in the 2nd round as Jonathan Hankins, a defensive tackle from Ohio State, would go next at 49th to the New York Giants.

Bell would be joined by Ball as B1G backs selected in the 2nd round, joining the Peyton Manning show in Denver with the 58th pick.

Offensive line is usually a position of strength for the conference, but on night two of this draft the conference only saw one of them go and that was Hugh Thornton, a guard from Illinois, who went to the Indianapolis Colts in the 3rd round. It was also another case of back-to-back B1G picks as Penn State's Jordan Hill would go next, landing with the loaded Seattle Seahawks.

it was an interesting night to say the least with teams being active in the trade market all night long - including the Green Bay Packers moving three times on the night (twice in the 3rd round and clear out of the 3rd on the final trade).

The pick of Bell by the Steelers was perhaps the most interesting and surprising pick of the night because one Eddie Lacy was still on the board and he seemed to fit the profile of what the Steelers like out of their running backs - big, physical and can catch the ball.

Sure, that's also Bell's profile but Lacy had shown more in his time at Alabama overall. It just proves the adage that "all it takes is one team to fall in love with you" is pretty darn accurate.

As for the best fit? That award goes to the other Big Ten back selected in Montee Ball. He can work his way in with an aging backfield and is surrounded by weapons on all sides offensively. He gets to grow into the NFL and take hand-off's from a 1st ballot Hall of Famer. Not too shabby, huh?
