Numerous missed opportunities haunted the University of North Carolina who came up just short against No. 9 Virginia Tech in an ACC battle, 24-21. UNC now moves to 6-5 and a horrendous 2-5 in the ACC. Virginia Tech continues to roll at 10-1 and 6-1 in the ACC. It didn’t start bad for UNC they took a quick lead due to a fumble but it was then 30 minutes of critical mistakes that they only wish they could have back. At the end of the third quarter the score was 24 to 7 in favor of the Hokies and many thought it was only going to get worse before the final whistle blew. It didn’t, as the Tar Heels came back, and you have to believe that if interim head coach Everett Withers’ squad had ten plays go in a different way Carolina would be traveling back to Chapel Hill with a win. Of the many mistakes in this game the one that hurt the most was the fumble by Ryan Houston on Va Tech’s 5-yard line that if not lost would have put North Carolina up by either 10 or 14, instead the home squad got ...

North Carolina Football and the missed oppurtunities

If last night’s game for UNC was a movie the title would have been “Missed Oppurtunities”. Because of those mishaps North Carolina (6-5, 2-5 in the ACC) came up short against #9 Virginia Tech (10-1, 6-1 in the ACC) by the final of 24 to 21. It didn’t start badly as Carolina took the lead off a fumble by the home team, but then it was 30+ minutes of crucial mistakes that I...

Virginia Tech fan brings lunch pail to game

Via Busted Coverage’s Screencapper ParadigmShift35: Of course the crazy Virginia Tech rednecks were out in full force tonight in Blacksburg. Is there anything else to do on a Thursday night in the hills of Va? Not unless sitting at home and watching Pawn Stars DVRs sounds like a blast. Anyway, there were freezing conditions, some dude with his lunch pail and Jenn Brown up to...

VIDEO: Female Reporter Disses Frank Beamer After Big Win

Okay, maybe it's just me, but it certainly looks as if the female reporter, in this clip from Virginia Tech's post-game win over North Carolina Thursday night, win number 250 for Frank Beamer, gives the legendary head coach the brush-off. Take a look and judge for yourself: I don't know about you, but where I'm from that thing she did is called a "diss"...

UNC RB Giovani Bernard out with concussion

Tonight’s game between North Carolina and Virginia doesn’t have any impact on the ACC Coastal standings — at worst, the Hokies will play Virginia next week for the division crown — but the Tar Heels have failed to cooperate so far with Tech on their final home game of the season, only trailing 10-7 in…

Tar Heels looking for win in Blacksburg

What better way is there to come off a bye week than to go on the road and play against a Top 10 squad on a Thursday night in a game that will be nationally-televised? And that is exactly what North Carolina (6-4, 2-4 in the ACC) will be doing as they head to Blacksburgh to take on #10 Virginia Tech (9-1, 5-1 in the ACC), with kick off being at 8:00 pm EST on ESPN. For the Tar Heels...

Frank Beamer and Virginia Tech: An incredible run of consistency

Thursday night Virginia Tech defeated North Carolina 24-21. It marked the 8th straight season the Hokies have won 10 games or more. You have to go back to 1992 to find the last time Frank Beamer and Virginia Tech didn’t have a winning season. In the last 8 years the Hokies have not finished outside the top 20 either. It’s not quite the stuff of the late 80s-90s Florida...

Virginia Tech tightens hold on division

Logan Thomas threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third, leading No. 9 Virginia Tech to a 24-21 victory over North Carolina on Thursday night and another 10-win season. The Hokies (10-1, 6-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) won their sixth in a row since a home loss to No. 7 Clemson and remained on track for a rematch with the Tigers in the ACC championship game. Virginia Tech would...

Smaller running backs packing punch in ACC

Undersized running backs are thriving this season in the Atlantic Coast Conference with their versatility and big-play potential. Backs like North Carolina's Giovani Bernard, Clemson's Andre Ellington, Virginia's Perry Jones and Kevin Parks, and Maryland's Davin Meggett all rank among the league's top rushers while standing 5 feet, 10 inches or shorter. They...

3 Key Plays - VT vs. North Carolina

1) At the 2:28 mark of the first quarter, things were looking TERRIBLE for the Hokies. Trailing 7-0, they saw the Tarheels taking a snap on first and goal from the 5 yard line. UNC RB Ryan Houston got the carry, Luther Maddy grabbed his legs and Antone Exum playing from the rover spot for the first time this season, came in high and hit Houston. The ball popped out and Derrick Hopkins...
