After four seasons at the helm, Northern Illinois head coach Ricardo Patton has been fired by the university.

Northern Illinois struggled in all four seasons with Patton at the helm, most recently finishing the year at 9-21 overall. The Huskies were knocked out of the MAC Tournament in the opening round on Tuesday night by Bowling Green.

The struggles come despite Northern Illinois boasting one the nation's top scorers in Xavier Silas. Silas was sad to see Patton leave.

Patton took over the NIU program in 2007, following the dismissal of Rob Judson. In four seasons, Patton went 35-83 overall while winning only 19 of 63 games within the MAC Conference.

The Huskies finished the season 2-10 down the stretch this year. The decision to let Patton go was decided late Wednesday night as the program will look to move forward after yet another losing season.

Northern Illinois has not made the NCAA Tournament since 1996 and has danced only three times to the school's history.

A coaching search will begin immediately for Patton's replacement.
