Northwestern and Michigan have very thin margins for error if they want to remain in the hunt for the Big Ten's Legends Division title. For one of them, the hopes of playing in the conference title game will suffer a serious blow Saturday in Ann Arbor.
Northwestern is 24th in the BCS standings in its first appearance in those rankings since Dec. 7, 2008. The Wildcats (7-2, 3-2), coming off a bye week after a 28-17 win over Iowa on Oct. 27, are a game behind first-place Michigan and No. 18 Nebraska in the division.
Kain Colter ran for a season-high 166 yards and three touchdowns while passing for 80 yards and another score against the Hawkeyes, earning Big Ten player of the week honors. Venric Mark ran for 162 yards to become Northwestern's first 1,000-yard rusher since Tyrell Sutton in 2006.
"I'm excited but I'm not overly excited right now," Mark told the team's official website. "We still have more games to play but I have to give credit to th...

Michigan Football (6-3, 4-1) will host Northwestern (7-2, 3-2) on Saturday at the Big House. Kick off is scheduled for 12:01pm (EST) and the game will be televised on ESPN. In a rare twist in this series Northwestern is the ranked team and the Wolverines come in unranked.
This game is huge for both teams. The loser of this contest will see their Legends Division hopes all but extinguished...
In a surprise move Michigan Wolverine quarterback starter Denard Robinson did not take the field to start the game against the Gophers.
Instead he was replaced by the quarterback turned wide receiver Devin Gardner.
Yet that didn’t stop the Wolverines from earning a 35-13 victory on the road in Minnesota to move their Big Ten record to 4-1 in the Legends Division.
The Michigan offense used a two-back approach in their win at Minnesota 35-13 last Saturday. Wolverine offensive coordinator Al Borges talked about the two back system, as the Maize & Blue offense tried to sustain the loss of star quarterback Denard Robinson rushing production.
No. 24 Northwestern (7-2, 3-2) vs. Michigan (6-3, 4-1), Saturday; 12pm ET ESPN
Line: Michigan - 10
Last Meeting: 2011 (42-24 Michigan W)
3 Players to Watch:
1) Denard Robinson (QB Mich): Simply put - the Maize 'N Blue have no shot of winning this game if Robinson is a no-go or gets knocked out of the game. Devin Gardner is a nice place holder and they got away...
Lolo Jones' Olympic failures have done nothing to lessen her confidence.
Despite her disappointing effort at this year's London Olympics, Jones is still dishing out challenges. The latest was directed toward Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson, who Jones claims wouldn't stand a chance in a race with Usain Bolt.
Robinson, of course, is considered one...
Brady Hoke made it official on Monday -- Devin Gardner is a quarterback again.
Yes, Gardner will still play wide receiver when Denard Robinson is healthy, but he's going to be practicing as a quarterback, serving as Robinson's backup, and will go into 2013 as the anointed starter.
He's even got a shot at 2014.
Gardner earned the return to his favorite position by leading...
Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner has shown he can help the team under center now and later.
The junior flourished in his first start at quarterback in Saturday's 35-13 win at Minnesota in place of injured Denard Robinson.
Gardner threw two touchdowns and ran for another score, showing the Wolverines he can fill in as needed for the rest of the year and when Robinson is out...
Several teams had a lot to play for this past weekend, and while it hasn’t been a dream season for the Big Ten, some schools still have dreams they kept alive.
With a win over Minnesota, Michigan remained in the hunt for a Legends division title, even though the tiebreaker remains with the Huskers.
Obviously, Nebraska’s win over Michigan State keeps them in control of their...
