Northwestern QB Dan Persa Is Out For The Year.
Announcer Bob Griese was singing the praises of Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa during the Iowa-Northwestern game, strongly promoting Persa as the MVP of the Big 10. On the very next play with only 1:22 left in the game Persa threw a perfect 20-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Fields. It would prove to be the game winner. The play also capped a stirring comeback as the Wildcats scored two late fourth quarter touchdowns to ensure their third straight winning season by knocking off No. 13 Iowa 21-17.
Persa was jumping for joy after the touchdown and ended up rupturing his Achilles heel while celebrating. Persa is out for the year. His season over, Persa still ends up setting the all-time Big 10 single-season completion mark at 73.5%. Persa had a remarkable game going 32-43 for 318 passing yards and added 78 yards on the ground, picking up key first downs on runs and scrambles.
The victory assured NU of a winning season at 7-3 ...
