ORLANDO—Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate finished the season with 93 receptions, 1,496 yards and 15 touchdowns, and that production led him to win the Biletnikoff Award on Thursday night. He also recently decided to forego his final season of college football and enter the NFL draft. Tate talked to Sporting News' Brian McLaughlin. Sporting News: What do you think of Texas receiver Jordan Shipley, who was your chief rival for this award? Golden Tate: I've watched him some and saw him last week in the Big 12 title game. He's a great athlete who makes a lot of great plays, and he has a good quarterback (Colt McCoy), which is key—and that's coming from a guy like me who also has a great quarterback (Jimmy Clausen). I think he's a very physical guy. SN: Where did you get the name Golden? GT: My father is the second Golden, so it's been there awhile—they didn't just come up with it with me.
