There are no questions when it comes to the quarterback spot on depth chart at Notre Dame.
Andrew Hendrix is the backup behind Tommy Rees.
“There’s a clear pecking order here, 1-2-3. Andrew is clearly the number-two quarterback and ready to play,” head coach Brian Kelly said, via ESPN. “I think I made it pretty clear that if I believe Andrew can help in winning football games, I am not a guy that’s going to be hesitant to put him in at any time to help us win. The evaluation is always about, for me, Can you help us win football games?
“Andrew can help us win. And we’ll see if there’s a time and place necessary for him to come in and help us win games. Right now Tommy is the guy.”
While Hendrix has less time on the field then Rees his size and speed would seemingly make him an asset in the read-option, like last year’s starter Everett Golson.
Last season Hendrix was 5-for-7 for 55 yards though the air and ran for another 41 yards. He spent the 2011 season behind Rees as well.
The news that Hendrix is the backup would put Malik Zaire No. 3 on the Fighting Irish depth chart.

Yesterday, an embarrassing clip hit ESPN for Notre Dame’s Cam McDaniel: the running back tried to run through the team’s gauntlet machine, but found himself painfully stonewalled — he had tried running through it backwards.
Of course, it was a simple mistake (he said the machines he used to use in Texas could be run through both ways) that drew a ton of laughs from fans. Today...
And, as you may well imagine, his attempt did not end well. A quick perusal of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team’s 2013 roster reveals that the running back who ran through the gauntlet machine backwards is Cam McDaniel, a junior on the squad. The video is culled from a “Wired” segment on ESPN […]The post Notre Dame RB tries to plow through gauntlet machine backwards...
Notre Dame running back Cam McDaniel got his bell rung at football practice, but it wasn’t by one of his teammates. McDaniel ran through the gauntlet machine the wrong way, much to the chagrin of his head coach, Brian Kelly.
An Instagram user named Sara Mitchell caught the moment on ESPN, which was doing a “Wired” session with coach Kelly.
All joking aside, it actually...
This GIF shows a Notre Dame running back smashing into the wrong side of a practice machine, over and over and over again. It's a miserable fail.
We’ve already seen how Adidas has tweaked the football jersey design for Texas A&M and a few other schools ahead of the 2013 season – the apparel manufacturer has changed the thread pattern and added some sort of motto or saying to the collar of each uniform. Today, via NBC’s Alex Flanagan, we’re getting to see what Notre Dame has on its collar.
As you can see, the...
Recently fans got a sneak peek at the new uniforms that the Fighting Irish will be sporting for the Shamrock Series this year, but in the video that was released you can only see so much. So here's a better look at the cleats and helmets the team will be using for the game. Suffice it to say the guys are going to be looking good.
So--is anyone else eager for the season to...
This video is absolute hilarious, and it’s all Brian Kelly’s fault.
In an ESPN “Wired” special with head coach Brian Kelly, you can see players trying to tell Kelly that they are on the wrong side of the machine.
Kelly as any coach would, disregards his players, and tells them to run the drill. Kelly makes running back, Cam McDaniel start the drill.
McDaniel goes barreling...
Last week, the long-awaited Shamrock Series uniforms were released for Notre Dame’s 2013 matchup with Arizona State at Cowboys AT&T Stadium. The jerseys feature a white base with gold numbering, with green complements. The helmets are blindingly golden with a green shamrock outlined on the side.
While the video release by Adidas showed the Fighting Irish wearing black cleats...
When you are a young guy trying to impress the coaches it is understandable if you make mistake or two that while embarrassing to you is funny to everyone else. However, when you are a junior like Cam Daniels you should know which way to run through certain machines--like the gauntlet that running backs use to simulate running through would-be tacklers.
Then again, since you should...
Take a sneak peek look at the cleats and helmets Notre Dame will be sporting as a part of its Shamrock Series uniforms against Arizona State.
So I’m already on record as predicting that Purdue beats Notre Dame this year. Last year, during the summer, I had a gnawing awful feeling that Purdue was going to underwhelm even the modest “expectations” that people were talking about at the time. I looked at the schedule and said I saw maybe a 5-7 season. I knew where the breakdowns would be, almost precisely. This doesn’t...
With Notre Dame nearly halfway through fall camp it's time to again fire up our predictions for the 2013 campaign. Next in the series: the season's lowest scoring affair…
