Notre Dame seemingly can't hang on to running backs to save their lives these days as top 2014 prospect Elijah Hood has announced his decommitment via a long-winded statement released via his Twitter account.  pic.twitter.com/CZZiG6HK0S — Elijah Hood (@EHood34) August 20, 2013 According to the 247composite, Hood, a North Carolina native, is ranked as the 5th best running back and 39th ranked player in the country. There's no way to sugar coat this news, losing a player like this hurts. Hood obviously isn't the first and nor wil he be the last, but everything that happens at Notre Dame is usually bigger and bolder than most and when it happens at running back, a position that stands out nearly as much as quarterback in historic terms at the university you can bet  Since 2010 the Irish have seen a few high profile running backs slip through their fingers, starting with now NFL-er Giovani Bernard, who de-committed and landed at North Carolina and now this as the latest one to come and go.  Overall this offseason hasn't been exactly a sparkling example of why Notre Dame is back. First there was Davonte' Neal leaving ND for Arizona, then Eddie Vanderdoes backs out of his letter of intent and a massive NCAA mess ensuses, eventually ending with him being allowed to play for UCLA this season. Oh, and lest we forget, star QB Everrett Golston is off the team for the year thanks to his academic failures as well.  it's pretty safe to assume that Brian Kelly and Co. can't have this season come fast enough at this point.
