Nova is a surprise starter because Chas Dodd was the favorite after beginning the season as the starter in 2011.

The Rutgers official Twitter feed confirmed the news on Monday afternoon, hours after Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood announced it.

“We are fortunate to have two talented quarterbacks who have won big games for us,” Flood said in the statement. “This has been an excellent competition but Gary’s body of work ultimately earned him the job.”
