Our Time So have begun the long dark months college football fans grimly refer to as the “offseason.” Months of no football.  Months of closely following recruiting in lieu of actual news. Months of ESPN rambling on about Tim Tebow and the Jets, long after even Fireman Ed had gotten sick of hearing about it (actually, they do that year round). But for the players and coaches, the offseason is a  much-need period of rest and re-composure  Endless hours of watching film usually provide coaches with a rough blueprint of what went wrong in the last year. And for Washington Huskies football, a lot went wrong. Steve Sarkisian has his work cut out for him. With that in mind, here’s five things Washington needs to focus on. Resolve the Quarterback Situation The elephant in the room ever since Keith Price choked away the Apple Cup and MAACO Bowl in back to back losses is the fact that many are questioning whether Price is the right option for the Huskies. Keith Price went from Heisman hopeful to pariah in the span of 13 games, but the calls for his head started mid-season. Will Keith Price remain the starter in 2013? (Photo: Wild West Sports) Washington has lots of talent and depth at quarterback, so should Sark choose to come into 2013 with a new starter, there are options. But until the Huskies know who their signal caller will be, it’s going to be the single biggest offseason issue and question mark for a team that otherwise could be very good. With that out of the way, let’s look at what else is in play. Moving Back Into Husky Stadium That’s a lot of equipment and gear to move back to Husky Stadium. We all know what a pain it is to move. Maybe players could carry the equipment from CenturyLink to Montlake? Preseason conditioning workouts? Strengthen the Trenches I don’t mean to get too into on-field problems, but improving Washington’s offensive and defensive lines is a must. The Huskies were straight up bullied off the ball on both sides. A stronger run defense and pass-protecting offense are a must. Replacing Departures I covered this in my Five Positions Washington Needs to Upgrade in 2013, but Washington is losing a lot of key contributors on every unit. Special teams, cornerback, and center are three positions right off the bat that will need new starters. Shuffling up depth charts is  a perennial offseason objective. Keep Recruiting Well Washington is currently pulling the 19th ranked recruiting class in the country according to ESPN. 19 recruits have already committed, with 3 ESPN 150 prospects. The jewel of the class so far is Damore’ea Stringfellow. I’ll have a separate post on Stringfellow up soon, but he is the headliner of a great class. A single bad recruiting year can sink a program, so it’s good to see Sark keeping up the hard work to ensure future talent. The inevitable quarterback controversy is the biggest offseason task to address, but there’s a few other things to focus on until August rolls around. Until then, Bow Down.
