Buckeye Nation was lucky when they got a commitment from 3-star WR Terry McLaurin. The other day I was lucky enough to catch up with the Indianapolis native and get to know Ohio State Football’s most recent star of 2014. Photo Courtesy of ESPN Q: What made you finally decide on Ohio State, and when did you truly know you wanted to be a Buckeye? I decided I wanted to go to Ohio State the day after the second camp.I had accessed my other two options, and it just felt right and was an all around fit for me and my family. Q: What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses as a player? My biggest strengths have to be my speed, versatility and my game changing ability running, catching and returning. My weaknesses would have to be catching the ball smoothly and attacking the ball at its highest point. (Buckeye fans are likely to witness McLaurin in a Percy Harvin-esque role as a slot receiver/wing back. Last time I checked, Head Coach Urban Meyer did great things with Harvin.) Q: Who’s your biggest role model? My biggest influences are my parents who push me everyday to be a good person first and foremost and aid me in chasing my dreams. They have my back and have sacrificed alot for me not just athletically but academically, among other things. Q: Have you spoken with any other recruits in the 2014 class? Have you tried to recruit anyone to go play with you? I’ve talked to Kyle Berger, Damon Webb, Stephen Collier, Sean Nuernberger, Sam Hubbard, and Jalyn Holmes so far. I also constantly talk with Lonnie with him being in Indiana. I’ve tried to do a little recruiting but I don’t wanna put any added pressure on recruits. I know how this process can be but I want to help where I can. (Let’s remember folks, this young man has only been a commit for a couple weeks, and he’s already reached out to half of the 2014 recruiting class. It goes to show that Buckeye’s are truly more than just football players.) Q: What will you be doing to improve going into your senior year? I will continue to work on catching a lot of balls, running clean routs, coming fast out of breaks and also attacking the ball. (Ohio State hasn’t had a serious speed or slot threat in a while. I know some of you are thinking Dane Sanzenbacher, and I laugh at you. This kid not only has speed, but also talent for days. Don’t believe me? Check this out.) Q: Are you planning on taking any more trips to Columbus? Yes, me and the other commits will meet the family’s of the coaches July 26 at Friday Night Lights. I’m really excited about that! (I’d do unspeakable things for a chance to meet and talk football with Urban Meyer and Mike Vrabel.) Q: What goals do you have for your future now that you’re an official Division I commit? I want to get a great degree from Ohio State and make life-long connections and set myself up to be successful right out of college. I want to have an unbelievable football experience and learn from great coaches and teammates. I also want to become the best receiver possible and reach my full potential. Then obviously win National Championships. Q: Lastly, what’s one thing you want Buckeye Nation to know about you? I want Buckeye Nation to know I’m a hard worker and competitor and bring an element of the game that can’t be taught, which is my speed and game changing ability. I can compete with the best of them and won’t back down from anyone. I don’t care about ranking because at the end of the day I’m going to compete against whomever no matter what status they are. It’s clear to see in the video above how talented McLaurin is. There’s absolutely no questioning that. The biggest thing you should take from this is his drive and want to be not only the best player, but person he can be. He says “speed and game changing ability” can’t be taught, but neither can heart. And boy does this young man have a ton of it. If reading those last two answers didn’t give you chills thinking about the future, Buckeye Nation, I don’t know what will.
