Winners

Oregon State

The Beavers were able to shut down a soaring Bruins team that was set to make a run at the Pac-12 championship. Sean Mannion and Storm woods were able to steal the thunder away from top quarterback Brett Hundley and the nation’s top running back Jonathan Franklin.

Receivers Markus Wheaton and Brandin Cooks had standout performances with a combined 15 receptions for 325 yards and two touchdowns.

The Beavers have an easy schedule with only Stanford and state rivals Oregon the only two ranked teams left to play. The Beavers have until November to wait about those games and with two wins over ranked teams they now look to making a run at that championship game themselves.

USC

We all know that Matt Barkley has Peyton Manning vs. Florida Syndrome when it comes to Stanford. USC was able to bounce back beating Cal State easily, getting Silas Redd going in the Running game and having the defense show up. Barkley wasn’t able to bounce back as well as the rest of his teammates as he continued to make mistakes throwing two interceptions along with his two touchdowns and only threw for 196 yards.

The Trojans were favored for the BCS championship game before the Stanford debacle, but now seem to be on the path to be considered for that spot again.

Losers

UCLA

UCLA was supposed to be in this years running for the Pac-12 championship. They beat up their non-conference opponents with ease. Hundley and Franklin were in the running for the best quarterback-running back duo in the nation. So what happened?

Brett Hundley was still able to put up 372 yards but only tossed for one touchdown. Jonathan Franklin was shut down and only got 45 yards on three carries. The defense go burned by a Oregon State defense that came to prove that they can play with the big boys.

Jim Mora and company now have to reassess things before facing Colorado at Folsom Field. A poor performance there and it may seem more like the prison for the Bruins.

Arizona

No one expected the Wildcats to beat Oregon in what was expected to be a shootout in Eugene. But to be shutout in a 49-0 rout is far from what the number 22 Wildcats expected. Matt Scott was picked off three times, twice for a touchdown, and the ground game was stuffed by an outstanding Duck defense that only allowed 89 yards rushing.

Arizona now goes up against a tough Oregon State team and then must travel to face the Stanford Cardinal as things are starting to look bleak for Rich Rod and his team.
