After a shaky 0-2, the Penn State Nittany Lions appear to have found a winning formula and are hitting their stride 5 weeks into the season. With wins against Navy, in state “rival” Temple and most recently Illinois, Penn State looks to be on track for a successful season, much of which has to be creZdited to stellar coaching, poise from a senior quarterback and solid defensive play. Matt McGloin threw for a touchdown, rushed for two more and the Penn State offense rolled through a feeble Illinois defense. McGloin, along with Michael Mauti, has set the standard for the Nittany Lions  through the first 5 weeks of the season. Deemed a leader during one of the most difficult off seasons in Penn State history, McGloin seems to have focused on just winning football games. He’s thrown for 10 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions, and moved the ball down the field week after week for Bill O’Brien’s offense. Penn State Football: Nittany Lions cruise in Big Ten opener

Bill O’Brien and Penn State had a little extra incentive to win their Big Ten opener at Illinois. That extra incentive produced a blowout of Illinois behind another great performance from Matt McGloin, who threw 211 yards and three total touchdowns in the Nittany Lions’ 35-7 rout. Since starting the season with back-to-back losses, Penn State has won three-straight while outscoring...

SHOCKER: Michael Mauti is B1G Defensive Player of the Week

Even a blind kid could see that Michael Mauti was going to win this week’s Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award for his total domination of the Illinois offense. It’s the second time in three weeks that Mauti has been the DPOW. Not too shabby. The make-shift Illini offensive line had to be terrified when they saw Mauti line up across from them…he was on a rampage....

Mauti, BOB & PSU pound Illinois for on-campus recruiting

Tim Beckman should have listened to Michael Mauti when he decided to send his coaches to Penn State to try to recruit the PSU free agents after the Sandusky Sanctions came out. At the very least, Beckman should have apologized. He did neither and Mauti made. him. pay. Mauti’s been a leader for the Nittany Lions off the field all year and even though he’s been a beast on the...

The officials reviewed the play and confirmed Mauti was brought down short of the endzone but put 1 second back on the clock. Illinois elected to kick an 18...
