If you were expecting to see an offensive explosion in a high scoring shoot out between the BYU Cougars and the San Diego State Aztecs in the Poinsettia Bowl, you were mightily disappointed. Of course, if those were your expectations, you clearly do not pay close attention to college football in the first place. BYU was fourth in the country in points allowed per game. Kyle Van Noy assured the Cougars that the defense would once again be the heart of this team, as the BYU linebacker accounted for two of the three touchdowns scored in this game. Considering he plays defense, that is impressive. Van Noy was an absolute force all over the field and all throughout the entire game for BYU last night, as the defeated San Diego State 23-6 in the Poinsettia Bowl. The game was much closer than the final score may indicate, as it was the Cougars who actually trailed the Aztecs by a score of 6-3 entering the fourth quarter. That is when Van Noy not only helped BYU comeback and pick up the win,...

BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy shows he is ready for the NFL

Brigham Young Cougars linebacker Kyle Van Noy was the obvious star of the Poinsettia Bowl. With each tackle, sack, interception, fumble recovery, blocked punt, and touchdown the junior recorded it was also obvious that Van Noy is ready to play in the NFL. BYU rides defense to another bowl win

SAN DIEGO How tight-knit is this BYU football team? The postgame conference after Thrusday's 23-6 win over San Diego State in the Poinsettia Bowl at times giddily degenerated into inside jokes between head coach Bronco Mendenhall and star junior linebacker Kyle Van Noy. Consider Mendenhall amazed by the interception Van Noy returned for a touchdown to put the Cougars (8-5...

Saturday’s Bowl Picks – Cajuns and Huskies

Saturday’s Bowl Picks – Cajuns and HuskiesMy BYU pick was one of my best of the season. Kyle Van Noy was even more dominant than advertised, leading the Cougars to my first bowl win. Ball State abruptly stopped the momentum by laying an egg, sending my bowl record to 1-3 so far. After all I’ve done for the MAC over the years by advertising and touting the excitement of the...

Game grades: BYU vs. San Diego State

It was a battle of defenses between two defensive minds – Bronco Mendenhall’s 3-4 defense against former New Mexico boss Rocky Long’s 3-3-5. In the end, the Cougars’ defense – led by Kyle Van Noy – would prevail and lift BYU to a 23-6 victory thanks to some fourth-quarter heroics.
