Where The Broncos Have Been: Despite a 12-0 regular season, Boise State was denied another BCS berth by the computers, which liked Utah a little bit more than the SmurfTurf crew.

But maybe the Macs and PCs new something because the Broncos went out and got beat by TCU in a game that was much more lopsided than the 17-16 score would dictate. Still, the bowl loss does nothing to lessen another undefeated regular season for the Broncos, who are now 60-4 in WAC play.

Last season also marked the end of an era in Boise as running back Ian Johnson, he of the Fiesta Bowl touchdown and subsequent proposal for the ages graduated. But in a season in which the Broncos lost one of the program's legends, they also saw the seeds of the future being planted. Quarterback Kellen Moore became the first freshman to start at QB for the Broncos, throwing for 3,468 yards and 25 touchdowns and completed 69.5 percent of his passes (better than Sam Bradford, Max Hall, Todd Reesing and Tim Tebow). The line, which had four combinations in the first six weeks and nine total began to gel by the end of the season and the depth at running back was evident when Johnson went down.

Where The Broncos Are Going: We'll know after Sept. 3, since Boise State's entire season hinges on the season opener against Oregon.

With a schedule that includes Miami (Oh.), Bowling Green, UC Davis and the Broncos' personal playground known as the WAC slate, there is only one thing in the way of another perfect season and that's the Ducks. And if there wasn't enough riding on the game, there's also going to be some bad blood after last season's Broncos' win, in which Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli suffered a concussion after this late hit.

My gut tells me the Broncos are going to kick off another unbeaten run. Yes, the Ducks have national title hopes as well but we can't expect the transition from Mike Belotti to Chip Kelly to not have some effect on the team. Plus, Boise State just doesn't lose on the blue turf, going 56-2 there this decade and there's too much to like about the Broncos: Moore's experience, the depth at running back with Jeremy Avery and D.J. Harper, a defense led by Ryan Winterswyk and Kyle Wilson and arguably the nation's best special teams.

Get ready people, the game's premier mid-major team is going back to the BCS. Take that, computers.
