QB Karam to transfer from Tech

Mark Berman KRIV-TV HOUSTON - Texas Tech quarterback Jacob Karam, former star at Friendswood High School, is transferring. A red-shirt sophomore, Karam will be able to play immediately at another school with two years of eligliblity left, because he is graduating in two-and-a-half years. Karam is earning a degree in pre-law and is graduating magna cum laude. "First of all I've got to give thanks to my teammates and coaches for giving me a lot of support through this decision," Karam said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "I made this decision because it's been heavy on my heart and I'm ready to go help a team win a championship." Karam will enroll at his new school in January. "I'll be able to compete right off the bat," Karam said. "The bottomline is I need a fresh, new start and I'm extremely excited about the future." Even though things didn't work out for Karam at Texas Tech, he is not upset with the Red Raiders. "Not one bit," Karam said. "I don't regret anything. "I feel like I didn't get the opportunity to play as much as I would've liked to, but I've learned in life experience is what you get when you don't get what you want. "I've learned from it. I've grown. I've made lifelong friends and this has made me the person I am today and it's part of my story." Karam, who played in five games this season and was 9-17 for 104 yards and two touchdowns, said he will look at all of his options. "I'm wide open," Karam said. "I'm open to any D-1 school that is going to give me a chance to compete and start and that is dedicated to winning championships." Karam acknowledged the University of Houston and Rice are on his radar. "I'm very interested in both of those programs," Karam said. "Both have great tradition. Both are close to home. "I'm interested in learning more about their situation, both of them, as I am with any school that's willing to give me a shot." Karam said Houston has certainly caught his attention. "They run a similiar offense to us," Karam said. "They're number six in the BCS and they are an incredible team to watch. I'm just very interested in them. "I have full confidence that I would be able to come in and continue the incredible tradition that's been going on at Houston."
