Baltimore Sun:
With back-to-back compensatory picks in the fifth round, the Ravens took cornerback Chykie Brown of Texas and defensive end Pernell McPhee of Mississippi State.
Brown is a slender, 5-11 press corner who had just two interceptions at Texas, both in his junior year. He missed the last four games of his senior year with a broken left forearm that required surgery.
McPhee played only one year of football in high school in Pahokee, Fla. He committed to Southern Mississippi but failed to qualify and played two seasons at Itawamba Community College in Miss. Then he committed to Mississippi State over offers from LSU and Georgia.
In 25 starts over two years at left end, McPhee collected 7 sacks and 8 passes batted down. At 6-2, 274, he had a thick build and is a powerful tackler, but was inconsistent.
McPhee was a team captain his senior year for the Bulldogs and was a vocal leader.
