This is not a slam but Akron will never be an elite division I university. They have managed to become one in class with Ohio State University; low class. Ohio State, from the governing board, to the university president, to the AD, to the football coach have engaged in misinformation, lies, cheating, and coverups for the sake of winning. There is neither time nor room to discuss the pressures under which coaches function with the goal to win; and winning at any cost has certainly become the norm. Ohio State is yet awaiting rulings from the NCAA on penalties and sanctions directed at the university and possibly Jim Tressell himself. It might require NCAA approval for Akron to hire Tressell in any coaching function wherein he controls the futures of young athletes. It does not necessarily require a great coach to produce a winning team - a decent coach who motivates can do that. Once you win recruiting brings better athletes who desire to be a part of the program and you are off and running. Bend the rules, look the other way, misdirect, lie, and coverup and you now have a complete program, but with a bad foundation. When The Ohio State Buckeyes played in the BCS Champoinship against LSU, a team many considered unfit to be on the same field, their weaknesses became obvious against a second SEC opponent. As an LSU alumnnus I watched the game and celebrated the victory with pride. But this year I was appalled by the reinstatement of Jordan Jefferson to the LSU team after his charge of felony assault was downgraded to simple assault - assault is assault! He never should have been there in the first place much less become involved in a fight after curfew. LSU was winning without him but sold out for the greater prize - the possibility of another championship. I was not aware that Akron University was in so bad a need of athletic funds to run the university that it needed to sell it's integrity to accomplish it. Thank you for clarifying that.

Buckeyes must hope they hired the right Urban
The Ohio State University has either stepped in a pot of gold, or stepped in the proverbial it.
There really seems to be no in-between in the hiring of Urban Meyer as the Buckeyes head coach.
That this hiring came together so soon after the Buckeyes loss in Michigan on Saturday ranks up there with the discovery of new moons around Jupiter. Only the monks on Mt. Athos were caught...
Five Burning Questions: You Can't Get Enough Of Urban
As a resident of Ohio and not a Buckeye fan, it's easy to get overloaded on Buckeye news.
On Monday when Urban Meyer replaced Jim Tressel (or Luke Fickell) as the OSU coach, the news was fed to us at a gluttonous pace.
My partner at Eye and Eer, Phil Shie, is the Ohio State half of our blog, and he couldn't get enough Urban news (and he still can't).
So it didn'...

Ohio State, even though they are paying top dollar, must be thrilled. Meyer has proven to be...

Meeting Of The Minds: What Is Urban's Upside?
Hello Columbus!
After a week's worth of flirting, heavy petting and sneaking around behind their parents back, Urban Meyer and Ohio State are now, finally a couple. I'm pretty sure they made it Facebook official and everything just moments ago.
But now with that, the fun part begins: How good will Urban Meyer be at Ohio State, and how long will it take to get them there?...
Urban Meyer Ushers In A Completely New (and Different) Era at Ohio State
On Monday, The Ohio State University formally introduced Urban Meyer as the 24th head coach of the school’s football team. The hiring of Meyer certainly swept in a general feeling of ecstasy among the Buckeye faithful. Just two days removed from the humiliating culmination of the season from hell, in the form of a bitter loss to hated rivals Michigan, fans of the scarlet and gray...
Ohio State Lands 2-Time Nat'l Champion Coach Urban Meyer

The 46-year-old Ohio-born coach has long been rumored for the job, and the Washington Post confirmed that he accepted the job two days after the team lost to arch-rival Michigan for the first time in eight years. Meyer succeeds Luke Fickell, who coached the team on an interim...
