According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel will face a punishment, but the NCAA claims that there is zero proof that be accepted money for signing autographs. Manziel 1st half suspension "closes the book" on Manziel/autograph saga. NCAA acknowledges Manziel did not accept money, source said — Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) August 28, 2013 This sounds awfully like the NCAA and Texas A&M saying that this is the best way to squash the distraction that this is for all parties involved. Almost like they are both admitting that Manziel probably did something wrong, as public perception sees it, but since they cannot pin anything on him, they will patronize everyone with a useless suspension. Manziel was investigated for the past few weeks by the NCAA for signing autographs for payment. The investigation stemmed from an incident last January, when Manziel allegedly signed autographs and was paid by a broker. Other reports surfaced, but at no time was there a smoking gun which included evidence a physical payment. We also wonder if Manziel’s off-the-field behavior in general, all the partying and attention he garnered played a part. No matter what, this is dumb.
