Steve Spurrier loves to talk. Today, at South Carolina’s Media Day, the Old Ball Coach did what he does best: said something funny while simultaneously taking a shot at another person, team or conference. Spurrier’s target today was the Big Ten, namely the lower-tier teams in the conference. While he didn’t point any teams out specifically, Spurrier compared East Carolina — who the Gamecocks face on September 6 — to “bottom tier Big Ten teams.” In Spurrier’s eyes, the Pirates are better than some of the bad teams in the conference.
Spurrier on scheduling, “playing East Carolina is probably tougher than playing one of those bottom tier Big Ten Teams,”

Spurrier may have a point, as ECU went 10-3 last year and is expected to have a solid 2014 campaign. Unfortunately, ECU doesn’t have any Big Teams on its schedule this year, so we’ll never truly know how it stacks up.
