ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- A study of the racial and gender makeup of leadership and coaching positions among the Football Bowl Subdivision membership showed it remains largely white and male. The report released Wednesday by the Institute for the Diversity and Ethics in Sport at the University of Central Florida said that 100 percent of FBS conference commissioners, 76 percent of school president positions and 84 percent of all athletic director positions were held by white men at the beginning of the 2012-13 academic year. It also showed a decline in the percentage of women in campus leadership positions with a slight increase in the representation of people of color, especially for Latinos and Asians. Among the FBS' 120 institutions, there were 18 minority head coaches to begin the season, down from an all-time high of 19 last year. That total included 14 African-Americans, two Latinos and two Asians. "For me as somebody who has worked on college campus for 30-plus years ...

Racism in Colorado coach's firing?

A former Colorado head coach believes that racism was at play when Jon Embree was fired by the school after two unsuccessful seasons.

Fired Colorado Coach Jon Embree is an Immature Disgrace to College Football

Jon Embree spent four years in Boulder as Buffaloes football player in the 1980s and prior to accepting the head coaching position in 2011, he previously spent ten seasons on the Unversity of Colorado coaching staff.  He was considered a lifetime Buff with deep ties to the CU community but a 4-21 record in two seasons led to his dismissal this week. As a respected member in the...

Former Colorado coach Bill McCartney: Jon Embree wasn’t given more time at Colorada because he’s black

The firing of football coach Jon Embree is slowly becoming a PR nightmare for the University of Colorado. The school believed that they would just fire their second year coach after he amassed a two-year record of 4-21 and quietly move on to their new coach. But the firing has been anything other than quiet for the university. Things began to head south for the university when an...

Jon Embree broke the Unwritten Rule of the Race Card

Four days after Jon Embree was fired as Head Football Coach of the Colorado Buffaloes the country is still buzzing from the ongoing debate about the level of racism involved in hiring decisions in College Football.

Jon Embree Suggests A Raw Deal...

Jon Embree looked like he was outgunned from the word "go..." Looked like he was undermanned, undergunned, under-resourced, and left to run one of the college football programs that seems to be left to rot in a new conference... Every presser looked like his dog was kicked and he was ready to turn in his car for a smaller model on the lot... He thinks he got jobbed...

Colorado coach Jon Embree cries at last press conference (Video)

Colorado head coach Jon Embree was fired earlier this week after a 1-11 season, which is the worst year in the history of Buffalos football. In two seasons as the head coach at Colorado, Embree compiled an incredibly disappointing record of 4-21. A former tight end coach for the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins, it is now obvious that the Colorado alumnus was in no way...

Jon Embree believes racism contributed to his firing at Colorado; we don’t

Jon Embree was fired as head football coach by the University of Colorado on Sunday following two poor seasons in which the Buffaloes went 4-21. The Buffs were coming off a 1-11 season, but Embree was led to believe his job was safe. He was emotional when he learned of his fate, and raised the point that African-American head football coaches don’t often get second chances as head...

Mark Mangino removes name from Colorado list

Former Kansas Jayhawks head coach Mark Mangino has been mentioned for the Colorado Buffalos opening after second year coach Jon Embree was fired. Mangino coached the Jawhawks for seven years from 2002 – 2009 with an overall record of 50 – 48. Mangino decided to clear that rumor up today though by taking to his twitter account and publicly stating that he’s asked for his name...

The Coaching Carousel is Spinning Violently

In this "win now" era of college football immediate results are expected. Southern Mississippi's Ellis Johnson was ousted after one year and Colorado's Jon Embree after just two. Gene Chizik has been fired just two years after bringing a National Championship to Auburn. I've mentioned before the case of Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer. Beamer struggled...
