Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel has set his sights on the NFL in 2014. In an interview Sunday with ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit, Manziel left open the possibility of declaring for the 2014 NFL draft — so the upcoming 2013 college football season could be Manziel’s last.

  • OK so he was something of a sensation in his freshman year at A&M. But if he thinks he can take on the the NFL after just 2 college seasons then he is arrogant on a grand scale. The NFL would chew him up and spit him out if he tries to go there after next season.
  • I saw the video a few days ago. I don't think the person who made the comment above got things right. The article is misnamed. He doesn't have his sights on the NFL. He said something like... "if the opportunity came along, you would have to look at it as with anything else." ESPN, or whomever, is looking for something to write about the guy - he became a phenomenon, but wasn't known or even projected to start before the season. Also, notice that he said that the fans are making more about the Heisman hype and last season than he is. That is alot more humble than most 19-20 year olds would be; I don't think he is arrogant. He does need to mature, but he would obviously have to weigh the tens of millions of dollars available vs. being hurt and playing college ball another year or so. The only major thing for him to do would be to help A&M win the SEC West (no easy task) and then play for SEC C'ship and possibly the national title. Johnny didn't make the rules about how long a person has to stay in college before going to the NFL or the amount of money people want to spend to sign these guys. On another note, A&M was supposed to be the dogs of the SEC. We kinda heard this from SEC fans and also our good friends that we left behind in the Big 12, which had a down year in '12. Gig'em, and read the whole article or view the video next tim.
