1. The game will be decided in the Red Zone.If there is anything Texas defensive coordinator Manny Diaz believes, it’s that red zone touchdowns win ball games.  Both Texas and Oklahoma have great offenses but they rarely score on big plays.Texas has scored 23 of their 29 offensive touchdowns from inside the 20 this year and red zone scoring accounts for 80 percent of their overall points.Oklahoma has recorded only three touchdowns from outside the 20 this year, due to a run heavy attack, but has scored on 20 of 21 trips to the red zone. Having failed every field goal attempt longer than 38 yards, it’s crucial for Texas to get inside the 20 to generate points.  In the end, the red zone numbers will define the game.2.  David Ash will be an entirely different player compared to last year’s debacle. Ash ended last year’s game 11 of 20 for 107 yards passing with a touchdown and two interceptions. He might not be in the Heisman race but he’s as solid as any quarterback out there.  With a ...

Bob Stoops appears in 'OU Anthem' music video

Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops made a guest appearance in this OU Anthem music video, a video that was posted to the University of Oklahoma’s YouTube channel.I’m guessing that because it was posted on their channel that it is a way to promote the University and was organized by them, but it was still pretty random/surprising to see Stoops make an appearance.I’m sure there will...

NFL scouts say Oklahoma QB Landry Jones is now mid-round pick

There’s always been a saying in NBA and NFL circles that you should turn pro when your stock is high. Pundits say the longer you stay in school, the more there is about your game for scouts to pick apart. Oklahoma Sooners Senior quarterback Landry Jones now seems to be a victim of such appraisal. Long consider a potential first round pick as a Sophomore and a Junior, Jones stock...

Oklahoma FB hurdles defender on big gain

It's not very common to see a fullback actually touch the football during the course of the game. However, Oklahoma junior fullback Trey Millard not only had multiple touches during Saturday's game against Texas, but he took advantage and ripped off some highlight reel plays.Seen here is the big guy hauling in a pass and rumbling over 70 yards down to the 5-yard line. During...

Oklahoma RB Trey Millard hurdles Two Texas Defenders Then Ref Trucks a Player (Video)

Yea, there's a lot going on in this video.  Oklahoma RB Trey Millard took a screen pass about 75 yards down to the 5 yard line.  He hurdled two players on the play, then we got to watch the referee truck a Texas player on the sideline who was watching the play go down.  Talk about salt in the wound.  It wasn't even Ed Hochuli who did it.  Texas is currently down 36...

Oklahoma will find out if they're fixed or flawed

NORMAN, Okla It took two weeks and one game, but Oklahoma went from flawed to fixed. Right? Right? I mean, the house is on fire after a loss and ring-sizing parties are thrown after wins. The only thing judged faster than college football teams are guys on first dates. The truth is, the Sooners, at 3-1, lost at the wrong time and won at the right time. They have issues, but 2012...

Texas QB David Ash exceeding expectations

(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By JIM VERTUNO AP Sports Writer Texas quarterback David Ash heard the talk in the offseason about being a game manager. The Longhorns didn't need a quarterback to win games, fans said. They just needed one who wouldn't lose them. Ash said all the rights things, too. He said he would spend the entire season handing off to running backs as...

University of Oklahoma channels 1998 for promotional video

((dr.saturday/yahoo)) Hey, Oklahoma, Eminem circa 1998 called, they want their look back. We came across this video on the Yahoo/Dr.Saturday college football website and feel compelled to share it. Though we aren't sure why. Maybe it's because we are oddly fascinated by it. The song, promoting the University of Oklahoma, is a  rap style song sung by a guy wearing...

Oklahoma RB Trey Millard hurdled and knocked over folks on his 73 yard gallop while the line judge just ran over people

The College Football Weekend: Week 7

Week 7 gives us one of those rare noon couch magnets as Texas and Oklahoma meet in Dallas. It’s not always the sexiest game, and usually results in a blowout, but it’s a reason to watch fotball at noon. That’s all you need. A reason. The ACC? Big East? Big Ten games with a female [...]

Big 12 Football Preview: Five Things to Watch For

1. Texas @ Oklahoma: The 107th Red River ShootoutIt has only happened twice since 1997, but Oklahoma and Texas will arrive in Dallas with a conference loss under their belts.  You can count on another high scoring game, littered with big plays, as missed tackles have plagued the Texas defense and David Ash continues to put up solid numbers.2.  West Virginia @ Texas Tech:  Geno...

Oklahoma 63, Texas 21: Same story, different year

The one-sided Red River rivalry of the Mack Brown-Bob Stoops era grew even more so Saturday. The Sooners ran roughshod over Texas in every way imaginable in the Cotton Bowl, coming away with a 63-21 win. Stoops’ teams have won Red River Shootouts by wider margins before, but never have they tuned up their neighbors to the south the way that they did in this game. Offense, defense...
