After a marginally successful 7-5 regular season finish for the Texas Longhorns in 2011, it’s easy to see the positives going forward, but weaknesses are equally as glaring.
Sure, injuries to Fozzy Whittaker and Malcolm Brown derailed what could have easily been a 9-3 regular season, but the lack of consistent production from Texas quarterbacks was believed by many to be just as much of a culprit.
Since the tough 48-24 loss in Waco to the Baylor Bears to end the regular season and begin the long waiting period prior to December 28th’s Holiday Bowl, talk and rumor has turned to the possiblity of Mack Brown and his staff turning to a junior college quarterback in 2012 to fill in the gaps and give the young QBs more cushion– and more importantly, a less stressful environment– to continue to develop for the future.
It appears there may have been more to this than previously believed.
According to a couple of reports, Texas could be considering former Texas Tech quarterback Jacob Karam as a possible starter in 2012.
While at Friendswood High in Houston, the 6’1″, 197 pound Karam had a highly productive career, finishing with 7,559 yards passing and 84 touchdowns in three years as a starter.
Karam’s name is surely not the last we will hear in coming weeks as the JUCO option for 2012 continues to be considered.
